Hello everyone....welcome to week three, I’ve loved reading all your replies to the quest so far amd you are all doing fantastic...all keeping going, inspiring each other and cheering each other on...

Gosh the month is flying by...the leaves are covering the pavements thick and fast and the evenings are getting darker by the minute...but this has got to be my favourite time of year for a run...especially when there’s a chance of rain...I’ve been out tonight after being cooped up in a car all weekend doing my training, boy did it feel good to be free!!! Thank you to you all for your good wishes...

It was drizzling when I set off amd I just let my legs do what they wanted...I decided on a 3k...my legs decided it was to be the quickest 3k to date!!! I felt like I was flying & it was just what I needed...I love those sort of runs...puddle dodging...rain loving...liberating...

So my quest continues...3 runs a week and always searching for that perfect run...that finishes on a high....

Stay ‘on it’ and keep posting coz I love reading all about your outings!!!

Good luck for week 3...keep on running, keep on smiling, keep on cheering and stay safe...

MC xxx

W3R1 complete this morning, and almost 10KG on my weight loss goal to boot!

I'm moving abroad at the end of this week, so hoping that means lots of new running routes to explore and extra motivation - I'll admit I'm enjoying the cold autumn months too.

Hope everyone else is doing well xxx

Yay..that’s fantastic, you must feel on top of the world?!!! Moving abroad for good??? I do hope it’s somewhere you might get some cool weather for comfortable running...how exciting checking out new routes?! Good luck with your move, I hope it goes as smoothly as possible for you

in reply to FurtherFaster

Very best wishes with your move and future.

A nice slow 5k for me this evening in the rain and in the dark for the first time.

Quite liberating!

Am still fitting in the swims between runs and on course for my graduation run on the Magic Plan to coincide with Virtual Vutality London 10,000

Oh yes, a rainy, liberating run...my favourite! I’m so envious of you being able to get some swimming in, we don’t realise how much we take things for granted until they’re taken away from us & it doesn’t look like there’ll be any swimming for me for the foreseeable future 😩. I’m glad you’re still on course for your graduation run too! Well done 👍🏼

31 miles done of my 50 mile target this month. Still run walk run at my maf rate which on some days doesn’t worry me and on others 😬

Survived two weeks on the low carb test. Feel so much better and allergies have cleared up which means I can smell again which is not such a good thing when you live with 5 stinky boys + husband + 2 dogs.

5 boys return to preschool/school so the house is very quiet which should make for less stress but think I’m going to need some time to recover from this year.

We’re still under strict restrictions here in Melbourne.

Happy running everyone 🏃‍♀️❤️

Wow, you’re doing so well with your target, sometimes it’s hard fitting it in & with 5 BOYS (!!?) I’m surprised you get the time!!! Glad you’ve got everything else sorted but hmmm, does,t sound like a smell I’d miss! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I think we all need to take our time after what we’ve all been through and are still going through for goodness knows how much longer...it’s been a strange one...if my Mum is looking down on us, she would wonder what the heck is going on!

Happy running to you too RunWillie ...stay safe

Very low key for me. No tidying/decluttering (enough day to day stuff!) Probably need to step the running up a tad to keep on top of goals. And haven't tried out any home cardio yet... unless you count the rather interesting finding, now that Fitbit offer 'mindfulness' sessions which demonstrate that rather than lowering my heart rate they inevitably raise it!

Hi Mummycav,

I hope your training is going well.

I'm continuing on my quest. Managed to mix things up with my runs. Tried MAF heartrate training on one of my runs. I found it really hard as running so slow made my legs really ache. I didn't quite manage to stick the low heart rate zones all of the time but I will continue to practice. Yesterday I had a 6k run planned but felt so good I carried on to 10k. I'm back at work this week so will have to fit my runs in around working long days.

LEJOG is progressing really well and I am ahead of my schedule. I should receive my 300 mile post card this week.

Happy running everyone

in reply to EThomas

I found this too! Hmmm, not sure I'll stick with it but I'm still mindful of long, slow runs just maybe not so strict with HR all the time.

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to EThomas

Ooo, get you pressing on for another 4K?!! That’s brilliant..those kind of runs are just the best aren’t they?? Well done on your LEJOG progression, I love the idea of getting postcards!! Brilliant!

Love this 👏👏👏

I had one of those terrific runs last night. I ran a HM along the banks of The Humber. Geese flying overhead and it was rainy, cold and misty. I smiled all the way around. I felt so strong and comfy I could have gone 20 but had to pick my daughter up from gymnastics. Still running basically because I love it.

Hope your weekend was positive with all the driving. With running, to keep out there regularly is the biggest achievement of all x

Thank you, I got some really positive comments from the trainer, he was I pressed with me and said there’s no reason I shouldn’t pass my test on Monday...I’ve been to Barnsley this morning, I found the test centre and followed some of the learners to get an idea of a test route 😉

Hello Mummycav and fellow questers. My first 2 weeks have gone to plan.

I’ve completed half of my running bingo card (probably the easiest tasks)

I’ve run 9k twice so hope to run 10k this week and then again at the Virtual Vitality 10000 with running buddies.

I’ve run 32k towards my 25 mile target for the month, so should be exceeding that.

My weight continues to go up and down but it’s less than during lockdown which is the main thing.

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

Sounds like you’re right on track Dexy5 and you’re def covering some mileage there!! You and your buddies will have a great time, virtually, obvs 😉

My weeks are all sliding into one another, and I only have two more runs on which to report - 5k and 6.1k - so am trying not to beat myself up about that. The second one was this morning, on a muddy path through the woods where I've not been for years, so I turned off too soon. Will make a good route for a longer run another day.

I'm much prouder of the first run (warning, blatant show-offery coming up...) as it was my second-ever sub-30 minute 5k, and my first as a 60 year old :) As it didn't dawn on me until 4k that a sub-30 5k might be do-able, I ended up going like a bat out of hell over the final km, managing an utterly bonkers (and likely never-to-be-repeated) pace of 4.36/km!

Despite weekend baking and scoffing the results, and generally eating badly, my weight hasn't budged. There again I haven't yet done my class at the boulangerie-pâtisserie!

While there's been no more progress on the spending front, last week's purchases kept me nicely warm and dry this morning. It was only 4.5° when I set out just after 8.00am and it rained a bit as well.

Hoping to run more over the next few days - watch this space. Happy running to all, and happy driving too, Mummycav!

Huh, weeks sliding into one another? I get that And no beating yourself up at all...you have to do what you can when you can fit it in...your muddy run this morning sounds like a good route when you’ve more time, but you still have the mileage you did this morning to put in the bank 😉 ...I’ve tried to be good too, staying away from the cake and baking aisle in Sainsbury’s but my eldest likes my fav choc (galaxy) and she’s very generous so chucks me a square every now and again when we’re watching telly!! 🤪 I’m not a massive choc or sweet fan but when it’s thrown at you how can you refuse?????? 🤣🤣

Good luck with your runs this week, sounds like they’ll be nice and toasty in your new stuff...I’m still in my shorts and T-shirt for now, it has to be proper cold for me to get my long stuff out 😉 and there’s nothing bonkers about 4’36...that’s fantastic!!

And I’ve been out and about practising my manoeuvres this morning 🚗

UpTheStanley profile image
UpTheStanleyGraduate10 in reply to Cmoi

That's not bonkers, it's absolutely phenomenal! Given that you must have been averaging around 6'15"/k to the 4k point, what on earth possessed you to think you could run the last k in 4'36" - and how on earth did you pull it off? I normally average just under 5 mins/k, and any very rare 4'36" goes right up there as one of my best ever 5k splits.

So, that's brilliant. Now get out there and do five 5'30" splits for a 27'30" PB next week! Should be a walk in the (not) park :-)

Cmoi profile image
CmoiGraduate10 in reply to UpTheStanley

Thanks for your kind words UpTheStanley .

Regarding that last k, it wasn't that I thought I could run 4.36/km, I had absolutely no pace in mind as I don't (yet) have a running watch, I just use Strava on my phone. However I vaguely heard a number that suggested I might manage a sub-30 time and I knew I'd be really, really annoyed if I missed out by a couple of seconds. I know the road well, it's pretty much all a gentle downhill, so I just went hammering off as fast as I possibly could. Frankly I'm surprised I didn't go flat on my face as that's exactly the sort of daft thing I'd do!

I'm a very inexperienced and wildly inconsistent runner, and my pace and splits are frequently all over the shop, not helped by the fact that all my routes go up and down hills. I have huge admiration for anyone who can run consistently, stick to training plans and develop incrementally. I'm basically like the little girl with a little curl: "When she was good,

She was very, very good, But when she was bad, she was horrid."

I'll let you know if I ever get near a 27:30 PB ... Don't hold your breath!

Happy running :)

Hi Mummycav. I think I've been a good boy.

Apart from a cold at the start of last week which robbed me of two running days, I've been continuing with my loose plan to build back up after that month on the injury couch.

I've just done two C25K Week4 runs, finishing each with a couple of minutes of sprinting. I couldn't sustain the faster pace to the end on Sunday, but today I could.

I'm going to resume C25K at W5R2 next and continue following the C25K timings from there on religiously until I graduate again.

That does mean I'm not going to be back at 30 mins by the end of the month like I'd hoped, but I'd rather that than rushing things and spending more time on the IC.

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to nowster

Sounds like you’ve been a very good boy indeed! I bet you’re looking forward to that graduation feeling again, here’s nothing like it!! Doesn’t matter how long it takes you, the feeling will still be the same and you won’t be watching us all running about from the IC doing it that way you’re right...steady away 😉

Hey! This week has gone well for me running wise. Not only have I finally caved and bought some winter running clothes (very much needed!), but I also completed my longest run yet on Sunday - over 11km!

I think I do need to stretch more, eat straight after my runs, e.c.t though because I think I've been semi- neglecting these little things. I also want to experiment with food on the run, because I'm finding that at about 50 minutes y energy really drops. I'm aiming this week to keep at it and complete all 4 runs :) I'm hoping by the very end of October to have a 15k under my belt, which now actually seems doable!

Hi everyone! I'm continuing towards my 10k planned for the end of the month. Very proud of myself to get out in the cold (not rain, yet!) and on Monday with a sniffle. I forced myself to go slowly and felt much better for running. I skipped my long run on the weekend when I was very snuffly but I'm not letting it dampen my spirits for the 10k which is my only goal this month! Onwards and er onwards!

On my last run, I listened to a coach/Minfulness podcast from NRC. One quote really stuck with me. "However, it goes, you will never feel worse for having been for a run." So true! Happy running everyone :)

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to NetCadet

Yay...well done NetCadet , you’re really on track aren’t you?! Sorry to hear about your snuffles but glad they’ve gone and you can get back down to business!!

The NRC runs are so good, they’re very motivational and get your brain going 😉

Oh dear- I feel like I’m letting the side down 😔

Seems everything I planned to do this month has had to take a back seat however, the good news is I did get out there bright and early this morning. 🏃‍♀️

Well actually it was dark and early ... but I was bright 😀

Only went for 45 mins super slow as it’s been a week since my last jaunt.

Feeling so much better in myself today 💪amazing the difference a run makes ... no matter how slow it is 🤭

Hopefully I’m back on track for Friday 🤞 so I’ll be on your tails once again.

It’s great to read everyones stories - brightens my day ❤️

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to 61Lady

We look forward to you being back on our tails too 61Lady !!! You are NOT letting the side down, whatever you’ve managed to do this week is just that...you’ve managed...you could’ve said ‘oh I won’t bother, it’s not worth it...’ but you haven’t, because you know it is worth it...a run, like you said, fast or slow, long or short is just what we need...& we’re reminded of how good it is everytime we come back through the door...we can always take something positive from a run if we think about it...

I love reading everyone’s stories too...never fails to make me smile 😊

Ahhh thank you m’dear. Still feel good after going out this morning. The sunrise was beautiful and it was very peaceful where I finished my run on the seafront so I just sat and looked for 5 mins.

Note to self ... allow a little “me” time each day - need to add that to my quest list 😉

Mummycav profile image

Good news from me !

Rediscovered my mojo and did 60 mins for the first time this morning 🥳 - I think that is 1st time ever (!) as even at school all those many years ago, I was more a 400m - 800m runner.

Things are looking up and I’m getting back on target. Thanks for your support ❤️

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply to 61Lady

Yeeee. Haaaa!!! That’s brilliant...nothing the ‘return of the mojo’...I lost mine once and it’s so frustrating, took a few of us on here to find it, it was a couple of years ago and I think it went to London and got caught up in the glitter and sparkle of Christmas!!! I’m so glad you have found it...keep an eye on it and never let it out of your sight again!!! Naughty Mojo...😉

Hi MC

I'm keeping on keeping on, and this week's (not) parkrun came in well under target :-) at 24'33". Not as wine-inspired as the last two weeks either ...... So that's 3 ticks in 3 weeks for that one.

I think I need to fit in a treadmill session soon, with Virtual Vitality looming I'll soon be running out of time for one of those this month :-(

Onwards and upwards!!

Hi Mummycav and fellow Questers, lovely to read how everyone's doing this month, looks like we are all on it!

Two runs for me this week🤗 moving through the c25k plan again...after almost 11 months on the IC it really is like starting from scratch (but with the knowledge 😉)

Week3 R3 was done on the flat, but I ventured up a hilly slope for Week4 R1, a little bit nervous, but can report a lovely success ( of course it is c25k after all, and we know it works!)

I was feeling very happy and Elton started singing 'I'm still standing' as I began my cool down walk...😎yes I am!

Still doing my strength and conditioning and daily yoga which are hopefully helping keep me stretched and fitter.

Next run Monday W4R2...I will be on it!

Good luck to you Mummycav on Monday, you will be brilliant I'm sure.🍀🚗⭐

Happy running everyone 🍁xxx

Busy and frustrating work week and weather nothing to write home about but today is Friday, it’s my payday and I visit my sister this evening - the one family member I can meet with at the moment.

Tonight we will put the world to rights over a cheeky glass of red wine (or two) 🍷🍷 and ... 🥳 celebrate my 7.5k achievement today... furthest I have ever - I mean ever run.✅

This is my favourite season too and clocks go back this weekend so some lighter mornings back with us for a while.

Hope the driving is still going well and great that you still managed to do some running 👏🏃‍♀️👏

All the best to my fellow questers ❤️
