Today was 'long run' day, but I was apprehensive about how'd I'd fare! Luckily things went well and I throughly enjoyed myself
I waited till the rain had stopped, and luckily around 4pm the weather seemed to clear up. Cold, but not overly so. I decided for my route to run though the city, to a park / lake up in the North, where I could do a 5km lap.
I used the NRC guided '60 minute run' - the same as I had done my first 10k. This time was so much easier! The km seemed to go by easily, and for about 45 minutes my running really did feel easy. At about 50 minutes I did start to get tired - my legs! I had bought 2 dates along with me, which I ate and was vey grateful for, but still my legs definitely in the last 10 minutes really felt it. I did start out a bit quick - but I really struggle to slow down! However, I definitely felt this pace (overall) is my comfy pace - it was easy to maintain, not out-of-breath, and felt like the most sustainable running whilst still having good form. I've always struggled with oscillating greatly between km with pace, so I'm pleased they were all roughly similar.
I ran for 1h05 minutes which is my longest run yet! What is incredible to me though is just how much easier this felt in comparison to 2 weeks ago (my first 10k). Also my pace! I swear a couple of months back I couldn't hold this pace for 5k, let alone 11k+!
Oh I also finally bought a cold weather base layer! Thank goodness and now I have no excuse to not run in the coldness.
