As VRB's may remember I gave up brownie as part of the September quest, and then decided that I wouldn't eat another piece until I had built up to 10 miles again. Well, tonight was the night!!πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹ I bought a piece of brownie from the cafe we were in last week; the day I was forced to hand over my portion to Mrs BC 😑. I warmed it up in the microwave so it was nice and sticky and added a dollop of posh vanilla ice cream. The portion looks small because I gave half to Mrs BC......I know, I spoil her! It tasted heavenly! Amazing, well worth the wait.

The run itself was quite tough. The trail was a bit muddy and I had one slip late on and my calf threatened to go into cramp, but thankfully it didn't develop into anything. I have been building up steadily to this, so I expected to get the distance, but I hadn't anticipated the bad stomach cramps which appeared at about 11k. It isn't something I suffer from usually; details spared! I had forgotten that 10 miles is a long way!!

Anyway, I managed 1:55:16, missing a PB by 3 seconds..but I don't care, just glad to be able to run 10 miles again after a rubbish start to the summer. Onwards and upwards now I hope. HM can wait, can't it ? Thanks to everyone for all of the encouragement despite my moaning! You are all ✨🌟🌟🌟🌟

Very very well done Beachcomber66. 10 miles is a very long way and to get back there after the year you’ve had is absolutely brilliant. And a really good time too. I hope you managed this one in daylight hours!

Half a chocolate brownie and ice cream is extremely restrained compared to my French toast after only 5k!

Yay, great going BC πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ» I can just see you with a fishing line on your head, brownie dangling in front of your nose πŸ˜‚ Seriously, well done. The weather has been so awful, so glad you managed to get round without mishap. HM can definitely wait, but I’m sure you’ll do it again at some point.

Lady in the cafe suggested that I dangle it on a string from my hat; I Said that I would just stop and eat it!!

A chocolate brownie and BC reunited at last, even if was only half. πŸ₯° I can imagine your delight at scoffing it after your fantastic run. You definitely deserved it. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

I’m so happy you’re back at 10 miles. Patience is a virtue and you’ve had to endure more than your fair share. But it paid off and you got there! Fantastic! πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈ πŸŽ‰πŸ’₯πŸ‘

Brilliant!!! 3 seconds off your PB? Thought you were going slowly now, just going for distance πŸ€”πŸ˜€. Well done, that's a great comeback.

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66Graduate10 in reply to linda9389

Thanks Linda. Not as daft as it sounds! My 10 mile runs and my one HM were all run very conservatively, so there is plenty of room for improvement without pushing my knee too hard. The shorter stride and increased cadence is suiting me; I am running more easily and at a lower heart rate (136 average yesterday). The knee damage had 3 contributing factors; the speed challenge, which I think caused a bit of runners' knee, a fall and continuing to run post fall. I was definitely running with a limp! I think maybe the plica came from the latter. A hot water bottle keeps the runners' knee at bay, and I am keeping up the rehab exercises, heavy band etc. I am running at about 3 minutes under 5k and 10k pbs, but I think steadily improving pace on longer runs is fine; guess I will find out! πŸ™‚

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66Graduate10 in reply to over61andstilltrying

That is tough !! Antibiotics to the rescue?

over61andstilltrying profile image
over61andstilltryingGraduate10 in reply to Beachcomber66

Antibiotics course duly consumed; cellulitis, so much better. 😊 Now left with two lumps under the skin on the inside of my knee. Unexplained at the moment, further GP telephone appointment next Friday.

What with medial meniscus tear, tibial fracture, arthritis, Baker's cyst, Cellutlitis and unexplained lumps, surely my knee has had enough complaints. Time to return to good health.

That looks amazing...I know I should be focusing on the 10 miles you ran (well done on that by the wayπŸ‘) but I'm struggling to take my eyes off the brownie πŸ˜†

I've been for a flu jab today and bought myself a chocolate muffin with genache centre as I thought it only fair, seen as kids get lolly pops after an injection.
