Recent graduate, next steps advice please

Graduated a couple of weeks ago but decided to repeat week 9 runs (I need the structure). Looking for something different, I thought I would switch to the Stepping Stone podcast because I need a change. Feel deflated ๐Ÿ˜ข. The pace suggested in this podcast is way to fast for me. I had to take my headset off and carry on without instruction.

Is there a similar podcast but with a slower pace?

It is really difficult when you are finishing the C25K plan and trying to find your way on your own. We have all been there. The secret is to forget about it, C25K Podcast. Learn to run in the park without any headphones, or go for a run listening to your favorite podcast or Spotify playlist. It will take about 3-4 weeks, but it will then become normal.

I finished 3.5 years ago. Since COVID-19 I am struggling a bit myself to stay motivated etc. It is hard when there is no parkrun, 5K or 10K road races to train for. But every Saturday morning a group of us from this forum go out on Saturday mornings and report back here with a little run report. Keep an eye out for it on Friday night or Saturday morning. It's called (not)parkrun / Virtual 5K. You can register on the parkrun website too if you want and log your 5K runs from the week. You can use it to track your runs, stay motivated and keep running. Good luck. Hopefully see you on the (not)parkrun post on Saturday.

Thanks for your reply Damien, very helpful

Firstly, congratulations and secondly congratulations!!

I think the Bridge to 10k would be a cracking start. You can do a time or distance version and it has 3 runs per week. It is awesome. There is no app but rather you do it by yourself. Like Sir Damien said, you can run with headphones for music, podcasts or audio books or just without anything like I enjoy. Pace does not matter at all. It is all about enjoying it and keeping going. There is a short run, a 5k and a progressively longer run with this programme. You can do what you like in any order. I like running comfy and slowly so never worry about that. ๐Ÿ˜

I'll have a look at that. Need to set some time aside to do some reading and planning. Thanks for your response

Go to 'posts' then 'pinned' and scroll down to Magic Plan!

If you miss the encouragement of a coach, download the Nike Run Club App ๐Ÿ‘ plenty of runs, of various times and distances, with Coach Bennett and others to encourage you, itโ€™s free and you can still listen to your own playlist too ๐Ÿ‘

Agreed! My family is tired of me talking about how god Coach Bennett is ๐Ÿ˜† But heโ€™s getting me there!

Love the guided runs with coach Bennett! I'm struggling with energy at the moment and I love it when he says' if you need to back off, then back off!' I can hear myself answering him back which is weird when I'm running on my own on a dark night along rural roads!!๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

We all struggled with how to carry on after finishing C25k! There are so many things to try. The Nike Run Club app already mentioned is really good! Try that for sure. You might need a bit of structure, I know I do! Iโ€™m loosely following the Magic Plan but mostly I just have a โ€œshort, medium, longโ€ plan for every week, with my short run I try to add a bit of speed intervals.

Try podcasts, audio books, your own favorite music...make a running playlist of your absolute favorite songs and keep your mind open to new music or old favorites to add to your playlist that you might hear during movies, tv shows etc. I just added the theme song to TrueBlood to my playlist!

I play Zombies Run!, a running app that tells a story with brief dialogue clips between playing your own music.

Try new routes, drive somewhere if you need to, maybe just for your long run.

Look into a sports watch if you donโ€™t have one. I got a Garmin and I love seeing my pace, my heart rate etc. with stats for each kilometer that I run. But at the same time donโ€™t get hung upon pace! Go slow if you need to! But the sports watches just sort of add another element to your running.

Keep reading here on the forums, itโ€™s so motivating to read about other peopleโ€™s experiences, their advice, new ideas etc. I read this forum every morning before my run, I drink my tea, some water, read here for a bit, then do my run about an hour after Iโ€™ve woken up, itโ€™s so much easier for me to do this than to try run out the door as soon as I wake up!

Good luck, you will find your way. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Exactly same Wigsy. 2nd week as C25K grad and now struggling to motivate self despite enjoying C25K plan - relatively that is- always a slow plod and huge effort to cross front door!

Will look into Bridge to 10K. Am also demotivated finding I only managed 4.2km in 30 mins. Onwards and upwards

Hey don't give up! I was going great guns and then my energy levels have just dropped, no idea why. Planning to do my 60 min run tomm and know it will be a battle but determined to do it, so maybe I go out and do it regardless of the time. I use a variety of apps to keep me motivated or sometimes just Spotify and music that I love. The Nike run app is good because of the variety of guided runs. Worth a try if you haven't looked at it.๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜

Hope your run goes well today. I will look at the Nike app as a number of people have recommended it. Thanks

I could do with you as my running buddy, we could keep each other motivated ๐Ÿ˜‚.

I'm going to look into all the apps that people have recommended today and start working through them.

Good luck, keep going

I missed the C25K so much as need encouragement & a goal. So I paid for C210k & started all over, itโ€™s a slow burn but Iโ€™m on week 6 & now focusing on style & as Iโ€™m fitter I chose country routes with lots woods & scenery. Eventually (after this) Iโ€™m going to try on my own with just my headphones & playlist & Apple Watch!

If you know or can work out your cadence (steps per minute - Garmin tells you if youโ€™ve got that) you could use a Spotify playlist based on that to keep you company. You can have one that varies slightly so gives you slow/fast sections for a bit of variety. I use a podcast usually - Thereโ€™s No Such Thing As a Fish is my favourite. But just run with no pressure - and have fun.

Personally I needed the structure of a plan! Initially, I would keep with 3x a week - but challenge yourself on other things! I would definitely say forgetting about c25k is a great goal.

Run with a friend, run with music, run naked (no earphones!), run to a podcast, go in the early morning, at dusk, and everything inbetween. Go easy, go hard, run to a guided run, and next time run with no goal in mind at all. At the park, along the road, drive somewhere and run, run up the local hill. There are so many opportunities and new things to explore. You will learn what you love, and also what challenges you to your core.

Right now the end of c25k might seem like the end, but really, is it very beginning.

Thanks for your response. I'm reusing week 9 C25K for now and continuing to run when Laura calls time. Just wanted a new app to listen to something new.
