Birthday shoes! A couple of years ago that phrase would have been accompanied by a very different photo πŸ˜‰!

It is my birthday next week and my husband took me to the running shop today for my first pair of trail shoes!

I took my trusty Mizuno Wave Inspire 13s with me to the shop (I don't know why I took them really, maybe I wanted to reassure them I wasn't letting them go completely or trading them in for a newer, flashier model? I even gave them a wipe down before I put them in my bag ☺️). My Mizunos still do the job, but just not on my woodland and heathland trails now the autumn is here, as I keep picking up acorns and small fir cones in the hollow below the heel, then I have to pause my run whilst I pick them out πŸπŸ‚πŸŒ², which is increasingly annoying and interrupts my flow. So when my husband asked what I'd like for my birthday I crossed my fingers and hopefully whispered "Trail shoes?"

Having overcome injuries and shin splints and finally got to the stage where my running legs don't go through the horrendous aches I once experienced, I was feeling more than a little cautious about a new pair of running shoes potentially throwing that progress completely out of the window (ah, that explains why I took my Mizunos - security blanket). I returned to the run shop where I bought my first running shoes and the lady in the shop was excellent; she listened to my concerns, recommended a few trail shoes to try and put me through my paces on the treadmill for gait analysis. I was surprised to see my gait has changed considerably and that the over-pronation noted during my first gait analysis had gone, and there I was, running in a neutral pair of running shoes in perfect alignment! I didn't realise that a runner's gait could change, but the assistant explained that it was a result of stronger leg muscles πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ˜ƒ, so that can only be good!

The first pair I tried on felt right immediately, the Brooks Cascadia 15s fitted like a dream and although I tried others, the Brooks were the ones for me. I am looking forward to giving them their first outing, so I thought I would post the obligatory photo on the forum before I get them covered in mud!

They look fab! Haven’t ventured out in my Hoka’s yet as the weather is disgusting. Feel a bit apprehensive about trying them out as so used to my trusted very falling apart Nikes. πŸ€ͺ

Happy birthday to you Delly dot for next week, you have made a excellent decision on buying those shoes, for the first time ever I have now seen another runner on this forum buying the EXACT same shoes as I have, it was on the 7th September, last month that I bought these Brooks Cascadia 15 shoes after a gait analysis, you will enjoy running in them, since I bought mine I have ran 16K /10 miles, a 8K and a few 5Ks, enjoy your runs in them. 😊 πŸƒπŸΎ

Thanks Al, that's a great recommendation for the shoes! I'm looking forward to giving them their first outing and I hope I will be as happy with them as you are.

As its a first run, as in new shoes don't run any longer than 5K, one of the reviews said that they are good shoes for running in icy conditions with good traction, nevertheless still be careful if it's icy in the coming months, they are not waterproof, if you run through ankle deep puddles you will still get wet feet.

Happy Birthday for next week Delly, lovely shoes, very smart, I’m sure you’ll enjoy getting them muddy πŸ˜¬πŸ€—

They're lovely Hidden what a nice present. I bought exactly the same shoes a week ago. I ordered them online because I already have Brooks and knew I had a neutral gait. I got last year's model (the 14) because they were reduced, but yours are a nice colour. Mine are pinky- burgundy! Not my first choice if colour but oh well. Very very comfy.

I'm looking forward to my first run in them. How are yours? I'm so glad I had my gait analysis done again as I it has changed so much and possibly would have looked for the wrong shoe otherwise.

They're great. I thought I'd made a mistake running in them for my last long run, without trying them out on a shorter run first. They were absolutely fine. A bit heavier than my normal shoes but that's to be expected in a trail shoe. Super comfortable, had 3 runs in them now. Good luck with them πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Lovely shoes. How amazing that gait changes. I would love to be able to move into a neutral shoe at some point as there are so many more options!

Very brave trail running- I am such a klutz that the idea makes me nervous!

Enjoy! (Says the woman whose replacement Hoka's went for their maiden voyage today and managed 7k without any sore spots πŸ˜ƒ )

After 8+ years of wearing barefoot shoes my gait changed too. I'm naturally flat-footed, but I'm not any more... as long as I keep the muscles exercised.

🌧 If I went out today I think a pair of flippers would be more useful! 🐟

The shoes have to be wrapped up for my birthday according to my husband, so no outing in them until then!

Happy birthday Delly-dot.

New shoes must be the birthday gift of choice for us born in October. I have also asked for a pair of trail shoes for my birthday today. I'm hoping to get to my local running shop this week. I have also been looking at the Brooks. I have a pair of Ghost 12s which are comfortable. I want to try various pairs on to ensure I get the most comfortable pair.
