Help to 10 miles

Hello there

I completed JuJu's very magic plan at the end of June and having been running 1 x 10k each week since in about 63-65 minutes. It feels like time to move up. 10 miles will do for now before thinking about any half-marathon nonsense. So how do I get there. I've wondered about converting the magic plan from kms to miles , would that be too much? I'm currently running every other day so 1 10k and 2 or 3 5ks each week. Should I carry on like this but add 1km to the long run each week until I get to 10 miles? Any advice most welcome πŸ™

Thank you

The percentages are the same weekly increase in either unit, so it can be done in miles... I ran it in miles once, but it was after already being at HM.

The two journeys are pretty much the same by the way... some HM plans only take training runs to the 10 mile mark.

I wonder if you can just do this in a natural way by running further when your body feels it's right, rather than having a strict plan? That saud, I'm firmly in the 'don't like plans' camp πŸ˜‚ seriously though, I ran an extra 1.5k on top of my 10k run on Saturday because I felt like it, will do 1 x 5k or 6k run a week, if I can resist the temptation of going further, another short faster run and 1x 10k a week, but gradually build up time on that long run. I suppose you could use the Nike Run Club app for longer runs?

If you want a plan, gradual increases to the long run, maybe a mile a week, should work.

However in my own case I did what Roxdog has said - ran further when my body (and mind) felt it was right. Last Friday I went out to do 10k, had a really good run and just didn't stop, so 10k turned into 10 miles!

I should confess that I have form on running unplanned extra distances during the Magic Plan: the second 8k became my first 10k, then the second 9k ended up as 12k. Ahem.

This is obviously *not* recommended. In my defence my other runs are only 5k-ish and I quite often have two or even three days between runs, depending on work commitments and weather!

Are we both on the naughty step? If so, how many others are with us? And what do we do about social distancing, rule of 6, and all that?! Especially since I'm in France! πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

Well done you! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸŽ½

This is consistent running at a really good pace too. I'm a firm believer in running by feel rather than incrementally. I work in miles too. You've done 6 miles loads. Go for 8 next time out and see how it feels. Another 22mins approx should be ok for you. See how you feel there then go 10. I think you are fit enough and strong enough but of course always go by how you feel.
