I've lost my mojo!!

Got up to running for 50 mins, all set to do 55, then I was ill for a few days, then I was at work and I was hungry /tired/it was dark and now I keep thinking I can't be bothered. Haven't run for 10 days, which is the longest I've gone since I started in April. Bit worried I'll have lost my fitness.

Need inspiration!!!

You certainly will lose your fitness and mojo if you go more than two weeks without running or doing any exercise, tomorrow morning get out of bed, have a light breakfast and go for a gentle run, do a little exercise workout just before breakfast, I am sure you if you do that you will get your mojo back.

Oh no!

Not sure the below will help as I am still a newbie to running, but for me: I’m sure the reason for my runs being so delightful is that I am running really slow. I am super slow (probably one of the slowest runners on here) but can run 60 min without any problem now.

And it also makes we want to run quite badly, even on my rest days. No problems with feet, bones, knees and back although I am pretty overweight. I’m not quite a complete beginner anymore, but for the longer runs I have a speed around 4.7-4.9km/h so just around his upper speed suggestion for beginners. For me, this has increased and is still increasing over time.

Here some quotes from the master of slow, Hiro Tanaka:

“In scientific terms, niko niko is the pace that one can keep without significantly exceeding one’s lactate threshold.  The easiest way is to listen to you body. If you are out of breath and not able to have a conversation, you should slow down – simple as that. Slow down to be able to talk at ease or if you are running alone – sing your favorite songs. For those of you who are at the beginning of their jogging adventure, niko niko pace will probably be lower that walking speed – we suggest to start at 3-5 km/h.”

Good luck, and maybe try planning in a super slow run to get that delightful mojo back?

Sounds like your mojo has been poorly too.

Big hugs to you, once you are properly better, it will come right. 😄

Hi, I can relate to this. I’ve found myself feeling I can’t be bothered or can’t fit in a run or I feel too achey. But I think the longer you leave it, the more daunting it becomes to get back out there. Two things have helped me - One is going out with the intention of just running as slow as i can for as long as I can. The other thing I found is that although at first I really enjoyed listening to music, I began to find it irritating, so I listen to a podcast when I go out for a longer run at the weekends. I listen to Table Manners which is so brilliant and I really look forward to that run, it’s a bit of a treat. And knowing I need to be able to run longer and slower at the weekend so that I can listen to Table Manners seems to spur me on to do a 5K run once or twice a week in between. Good luck, I’m sure you have only mislaid your mojo, it’s not lost!!

Ps before anyone thinks I must be a proficient runner, I’m not! I’m a 53 year old former sloth who only started C25K in January and had always been convinced I couldn’t run.

Thank you Sewnotfit! I've been out for a slow 3K this morning and have got my confidence back a bit. We are in very similar places, I'm 50 (just!) and a new runner. I totally agree about music and on my last 2 long runs have gone for podcasts. I find they distract me more from wondering how long I've got left! Will definitely check out Table Manners. Thanks for your advice x

Don't worry. It's still there hiding under the voices of the dreaded gremlins. Why don't you go out for a nice gentle short run. Put on some music you like and just relax into it.

The longer you leave it the harder the gremlins shout.

You won't have lost any fitness, I think that starts after about 2 weeks.

Now today where I live it's cold, but gorgeous.

A perfect day for a jogette!.

Don't set off with any expectations, maybe tell yourself it will be a gentle 15 minute plus, and see where you get.

No pressure is the key I think. We're meant to enjoy this aren't we?🤗
