Aww Running! I have missed you. Last recorded run on Strava August 23rd. On August 24th, I broke my scapula (shoulder blade) and, although not fully recovered, that'll be several weeks yet, the shoulder muscles have done a sterling job keeping the bits of blade together, healing sufficiently quickly that the medics gave me the green light to run again, with caution.

I threw caution to the wind I must admit. All these weeks not running, pent up frustration and 2 weeks back at work stresses built up, I couldn't wait to get on the road.

I have been a 5k regular since graduating C25K in March this year, but this evening, on my first outing since the accident, I reached 5k with relative ease and with great pleasure. Perfect evening for it; cool zephyr, sun setting - well hydrated and carb'd-up from a good lunch in anticipation of the run.

I was expecting to achieve 3k or thereabouts, with some walking breaks between, but when running, I didn't get those feelings, was waiting for the toxic 10s, never came!

I ended up passing 5k, because I felt that good. Sure the shoulder began to ache, but was manageable, bearable. I felt it getting worse, and as my body started to agree with my mind that I should stop soon because of it, I hit 6k just shy of 34 mins, which I couldn't believe.

Day of rest tomorrow. I think 6k may be too much too soon to go for every run from now, so will target 5.5k for a while on my journey to 10k - which begins today!

Happy Day

Wow, what a time you’ve had, but you’re back with a 💥 and that’s brilliant. 👏👏👏

Thanks very much cheekychipmunks . I might have set the bar little high for myself with this extraordinary performance. I am not usually too worried about time, but when I saw this, yeah, Wow!

There’s comeback runs, there’s great comeback runs and then there’s this one... awesome running! Welcome back! Take it easy for a couple now as usual... we don’t want any setbacks. Very well done!

Thanks UnfitNoMore . Will take your advice and keep it lower key for a while - this one was definitely the exception and not the norm, for me (one day though🤞)

Varying the pace will help, the slower ones really help the fitness, and a quicker one shows it. Personally I like to do that about once a fortnight, my current plan tends to ask for it weekly.

Woohoo 🤸‍♀️👏 well done, you clearly needed to get rid of all that pent up energy, fantastic achievement! You're right though, probably best to take it easier for the next few runs. Still, I bet it feels wonderful to be out there in running shoes again 😃

Ah yes Beatlesforever , it felt incredible to be back out there. I hope that you (or anyone else for that matter) do not ever have to experience any similar such trauma in order to fully appreciate the joy and benefits that running gives us.
