This afternoon's 5 mile run saw me break 500 miles of running this year. I had an Achilles injury in January that limited my running for 5 weeks but apart from that I've really got into my running. Today's run was awesome because it just rained so hard it turned into hail. The elastic on my shorts broke so every 10 steps I was pulling them up π. I started off steadily but then the last few miles I went for it and got a 7.41 mile in towards the end. I was soaked all through but during the run I just looked to the sky and burst out loud laughing π§β€. A memorable way to mark 500.
And I would run 500 miles...: This afternoon's... - Bridge to 10K
And I would run 500 miles...
Congratulations on running for 500 miles this year, well done, you and Buddy34 love to run in the β rain, onwards and upwards to another 500 miles. ππΎπ
We certainly do. It really was brilliant to get that soaked. I think it's the wettest I've ever been while running. Thanks my man.
Love that! Well done! Big congrats! π₯³ 500 miles, gosh .... π² π€©
Hey. You'll go further π±π±
Huge congratulations on your 500 mile run. Iβve been out running before a few times in very heavy rain showers where the road is like a river. When your wet your just wet. Iβve ran past other runners and without saying anything we have just laughed at each other. Well done again.
Damien
Love this! Thank you my friend π
Love it! The rain was epic. Glad it made you laugh. How exciting to have covered so many miles! I might count up the miles I've run- it might be more impressive than I think!
Definitely do because it is a surprise!
Please treat yourself to new shorts though! π
ππππππππππ
What a fantastic achievement and a great attitude to Running in the rain π¬π
My very favourite running weather!
Oh my, there just arenβt words, Iβm sorry to say I laughed and laughed at your shorts elastic, and crikey i couldnβt even get 7.41 a k let alone a mile Iβm so impressed
But Iβm sorry my mind just keeps going back to that elastic it reminds me of our first few runs in our baggy old track suit bottoms that wouldnβt stay up
This is how it was πππ when they got to my knees I pulled them up. It was a disaster πππ good job I didn't see a single soul!
Yes that was lucky and by the way thatβs an amazing amount of miles, i checked ours and itβs about 278 but hardly ran in January or Feb
See... that is epic πππ
I saw your link for Buddy and downloaded that app now thatβs funny
It's so awesome!!
Send it to your friends and family!
π havenβt found how to put music on yet but itβs fun thanks
It says add music and you get just one that is free but it's something different!
Is there an app for tracking how far your running shorts have travelled to let you know when they need replacing? If not I feel there's a missed market opportunity...
Congratulations on your achievement. A new pair of shorts required π€£
Absolutely! I'm going back to my Grimsby Town shorts!
Love this post!
Well done you for all those miles, thatβs just amazing and keeping the shorts up π€£ππ€£π
ππππππ thank you! I keep it real π
Well...that sure was a happy 500 milestone!! And what an achievement too!! ππ½ππ½π€©π€©π€© Well done to you! And for your acrobatics in keeping the shorts up while you ran too! π΅π€£β€οΈ
I felt so lucky today. To run because I want to and because I can π
Congratulations on reaching 500 miles of running this year GTFC, absolutely amazing and it rained as well so all good.
Glad you managed the shorts malfunction, wouldn't want to be calling you a flasher π€£π€£
Once again , congratulations πββοΈπββοΈπππͺ
πππ I kept them up with my non watch hand to keep my Garmin arm moving!! By the way, I found a new app called 'relive' and it's free and sync's with Garmin straightway. It's ace!
Give it a go. You can add music but I forgot here π
Just used it. I feel like 'Rocky' with a video of my run with musicπ€£π€£
I always remember you and Rocky IV soundtrack π and of course, rain π§π
It synced all my Garmin runs and you can make a video with some music. I think you only get one choice on the free version but it's something different!
Awesome!!
Wow!!!!!!! Fantastic achievement- that is sooooo far!!!! However thank goodness you noticed your shorts elastic had gone- you wouldnβt want any unfortunate photos appearing on your local social media saying βmad runner spotted in hailstorm looking to sky and laughing with his shorts around his anklesβ πππ
Wow that's absolutely amazing, well done!! ππ What a fantastic start to the weekend. A large one for you tonight, you've def earned itπ·πΎππ
Great effort, 500 miles and time out for injury, fantastic work. That rain sounds brutal, glorious sunshine here today after yesterday's downpour. Happy running π€
Thank you superstar!!
What a run and what a milestone and superb timing! Many congratulations! I guess the shorts issue and the rain make for a nice dramatic way to mark such a memorable run π€£
Exactly! I'm really happy. Thank you π
Thatβs fantastic and a very speedy mile at the end!
I am your disciple after all π
πΆπ€£
I need to get back on track. That 18 miler really set me back after even though the run itself was great.
Did it take you a while to recover?
It doesnβt help I havenβt had a drop back week as aiming for 150 miles again this month. Next week is going to be a drop back week!
Wow, that's an awesome amount and real credit to you. I signed up for the virtual London Marathon today on October 4th. I'm going to give it a shot even if I have to walk bits. Yes, have a less mileage week for sure. You've earned it!!
Way to go GTFC!! Happy running!
Thank you ππππ
Epic GTFC, and with faulty shorts too! Well done - it is indeed a fantastic way to make your 500 miles! ππββοΈπ
I was smiling the whole run. My big bucked teeth like Bugs Bunny!!
Wow GTFC. That really is a milestone worth celebrating βοΈ. Well done for overcoming the shorts malfunction and making it through to finish in style π.
Thank you ! Each run is it's own story and this was a belter. Really appreciate it π
Fabulous achievement GTFC. How do you find out how far youβve run? Oh, Well done on hanging on to those shorts while maintaining a good pace. Impressive π
I started to use Strava when I was doing this programme and it records it all for you. I recently got a Garmin watch which syncs everything too and this has been the best thing I've bought. So far 84 recorded runs which is 3 a week totalling 22 miles.
Ok. Iβve just found my stats in stravaπ
Yes! Under 'Training'
I found mine in my profile after a lot of fiddling around. Oh my. Iβve just seen statistics there. Lots of interesting stuff in there! Iβve climbed 4500 metres in elevation year to date π
It really makes you feel proud of all the effort you have put in π½
Iβm trying to get my head around the notion of 500 miles! Amazing achievement GTFC!!
Epic! I love the rain too. Got properly soaked in the New Forest last week and I couldn't stop grinning!
How are your runs going? You've had some epic 10k's!!
Going great, thanks. Lockdown has made me more consistent, run further, done more hills (you have to if you run out of my front door!) and I think I've got fitter. Next 10k might be next weekend? Going to try around 7k today - I'll see how it feels!
That's lovely. Go for it!! You're doing so well π
Ah thatβs great GFTC π₯³. And in the rain too.... βοΈ. Well done. Your shorts saga was quite funny too !
Thank you. It's always great to do the run and look back on it after.
Thatβs a fantastic achievement- great Job and a huge well done all round. Itβs great to have a memorable memory to remember it all too. Hereβs to the next 500 injury free for you. πππ
Gosh, yes. This is so important! Thank you so much. Running without injury really is liberating.
Congrats! A euphoric moment probably enhanced by your drooping shorts π
I thought wardrobe malfunctions were something only women suffered until same happened to me. A nylon cord Iβd used kept slipping causing me to holdβem up and this was during my first park runs!! π€£
Gosh! Much worse in a park run πππππ
Wow! Congratulations - that's quite an achievement! ππ€© Triumph over adversity on a grand scale. It reminds me of Rudyard Kipling's poem 'If'. Maybe you could pen a runner's version:
'If you can keep your shorts up in the rain when all about you others are lying on the couch...' π€
Seriously, well done. Thanks for inspiring us all. π
I really love this!! Thank you. That's really made me smile πππ
Great run and a great story to go with it! What will you do when you hit a thousand miles? π€π€£π€£π€£
I'm hoping to do this by the end of the year hopefully. I really hope to stay injury free if at all possible π
As I'm a bit late to the party all the shorts jokes have probably gone... so I'll just say a huge congratulations π seriously impressive and so inspirational for others. All the best for the next 500, you do know you're going to have do something "memorable" for the 1000 miles π huge well done π
Almost a winning streak GTFC! Staying injury free is key as you say. I havenβt cracked that after over 2 years, but I have managed to come back stronger. Calves used to be the problem, recently it was a knee which showed up weaknesses in my hips....maybe the injuries migrate up the body as we progress! Cross training is our main weapon!! Hope you have many happy miles ahead.π
Thank you, I really appreciate this. I don't really do anything on non-run days but stretch and strengthening exercises. There is so much information at times it's so much to absorb so I just seem to do my own thing but I do pick up things along the way.
Haha, that sounds like a brilliant run, very eventful π
Well done on your 500 miles...just checked and I'm at 350, looks like I've got some catching up to do π
Wow! Incredible. Well done! 500 miles this year. Amazing.
Just as a ponder: what benefits to you feel with the running? (Apart from πΊπΊ with the 500 miles! π)
It brings me lots of benefits which I'm grateful for. Mentally it really helps me as most runs are over an hour and it gives me time to think about things and enjoy being out. The mindful aspect is huge for me. Almost all my runs are without music and alone so I'm immersed in my own thoughts and what is around me. I see running as a 'Wellness Tool' that I look forward to and structure in to my week. Almost all my runs are done at a comfy/conversional/low heart rate pace which after a while of doing makes you run without great effort and then if you want to have the occasional run to push it or go for a PB you can. I finish and feel like I haven't really been running on lots of my runs, so it becomes joyous. I definitely view it as 'for me' and almost as a treat to myself. I get a buzz after every run and like to go out and battle the elements too. I would say though that I'm still hugely inexperienced as I only started in Nov 19 and every week there seems to be something new and it can be bewildering! Obviously, physically it helps too and my legs are more shaped and in general I feel fitter and stronger too. I very much like the freedom to do my own thing and run with how I feel on the day. Sometimes a 6m run turns into 10 or 15 and likewise an 8 mile turns to 5. I enjoy it so it is never a chore and I'm motivated esch6snd every time to run which is 3x a week. How about you, how do you find it?
Thatβs such a great response. Thank you for posting. Itβs interesting that you mentioned the mental health benefits first. Have to echo that, I just βfeelβ better knowing that Iβm out doing something that is super healthy and free (Iβm stingy!!). And being out in the elements (apart from the sun!) is so refreshing.
Physical benefits, nothing drastic Objectively but I just βfeelβ better physically. And that mss as heβs it worthwhile.
Also, you just started in November?!? Youβre a machine! Such great progress. Loved how in your post, you just sound happy talking about the running. And itβs lovely how you just enjoy it. You such a good support and encourager on this forum. ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ»
Wow, 500 miles?! I don't think I can even imagine where that would take me!! VERY far though π€π
The shorts thing is very funny too, perhaps you could use the excuse of this amazing milestone to treat yourself to a new pair?
Here's to the next 500 and may they be injury free and at least as happy as the first βΊοΈππͺπββοΈπββοΈ
Thank you so much. I still enjoy going each and every time and over the weeks and months it all adds up. Appreciate your support π
Fantastic, a memorable run and a great achievement π€
