Summer 10km incentive and up to 7 miles.

I was struggling a bit this summer to get back up to 10k as I want to try for further, maybe 10 miles. Then I saw the virtual summer 10k for kidney research so that was my incentive! I managed the 10k last week and carried on for another mile so 7 miles run in 1hr 22. This week I did 4.5 miles Monday so today I challenged myself to 7 miles again to see if I could do it. Eldest daughter 8 yrs was a whippet on her bike and out the door before I had time for stretching! Off we went on a new route for 7 miles. There was a quick slurp stop at 2.7 miles, an almost got run over stop at 4.5 miles, a stinky bin lorry blocking our way at 5 miles before we finally hit 7 miles in 1hr 15. I can do it! My legs felt tired so I need to strengthen them. I would like to increase to 10 miles slowly but worry that I am not strong enough yet.........

Great piece of bling there! Well done, it sounds as though you are building up steadily. And I am sure you will get to your 10 mile goal! Good luck!😀🏃🏽‍♀️

Thank you, it is a nice bit of bling and my second 10k bling this year. I am trying to avoid injuries in the 10k to 10mile quest as I did get some hip flexor issues from 5k to 10k. My legs seem to need some help this time!

I do think we often get these niggles as our bodies adjust! I remember hip issues on my way to 10miles! Having had various setbacks in my running due to illness and injury recently, I suspect I shall probably go through them all again as I start to build up once more! ...I do LOVE running!😀

Nice bling 🙂 Well done on the run. Cross train on your rest days and do some strengthening exercises. This will all help your body to sustain longer distances. Good luck and enjoy the ride!

I do need to regularly include strengthening on my rest days, that should help. I do walk a lot on my rest days but not cross train. Something to consider....

Realfoodieclub posts a weekly core strengthening exercise, just started a few weeks ago. Look for the pinned post on this page.

Do lots of glutes work. Weak glutes are the cause of so many running injuries.

Sounds a good run and time, well done 👍 I would also like to get to 10miles (can't believe I am even thinking about it!!) 13k is my max so far. Best of luck with your goal. Love the photo and medal!

Yes, I have no idea why I am aiming for 10miles. Maybe a bridge to a hm distance in the future. I see others run these distances and think I could do the same but my body seems to think differently lol. You are very close with 13k, closer than me, so give it a go!

Like you, my legs need to get stronger but also a bit worried about the old knees! 😉 determined to get going with the core exercises posted by realfoodieclub over the past few weeks. I think they will really help.
