Hi all, yep, unfortunately after the short lived joy of feeling we were getting back to normality (whatever that means these days) Covid has come back to remind us what a nasty, indiscriminate virus it is. We have 17 new cases, all community transmitted. Auckland is now on alert level 3, schools and businesses closed with the rest of the country on alert level 2, which will be reviewed tomorrow.
Fingers crossed by the Government acting early, we are on it before it has the opportunity to get out of hand and our “team of 5 million” will pull together again. Keep safe everyone (and cool) and happy running ‘cos we’re so lucky that we can. 😎

Hi lexi sorry to hear that but sounds very encouraging that NZ is so proactive, it doesn’t bode so well for the rest of the world though 🙄
As you say though absolutely no better time to focus on what we have and what we can ....a sea fret and a cool breeze blowing in here (North Norfolk coast) this morning but more warm sunshine promised. We’ve had the best Summer in many years 😎
It is really comforting having a Government that acted so quickly. That cool breeze sounds just the ticket. I remember one memorable UK summer, when I arrived back to stay for a couple of years in 1976. Boy that was hot! 🥵
It sure was, I remember it well, worked in a pea processing factory (student days) all Summer and then over to France on the ferry, down to the South camping until term started, such carefree days, how young we were 😄
Thanks lexi6. I’m finding stage 4 hard with only being allowed out for an hour once to exercise. Poor dogs. I can’t take them when I run and I need to run with my five boys all home from school tearing around the house. Mental health is a real problem this 2nd lockdown. Feels like we’re never getting out 😢
RunWillie you really have your hands full with the boys, never mind the dogs. Lockdown must be so hard second time around and boy you really need that “me” run time. You’re amazing, keep running and you and your family keep safe 🙏🏻 x
Its a shame lexi and I thought of you and your parkrun when I heard the news. I think your government has acted quickly and correctly. Fingers crossed there are not too many more cases.
What a shame Lexi ☹️ Unpredictable times we’re living in. I think I mentioned to you ages ago that a friend of ours went out to NZ in early March (he goes every year) and he’s still there! He thinks it’s safer there than here 😕
I think your friend is right IP, think our Government acted quickly and if everyone follows self distancing etc hopefully we can beat it again. I’m very glad I’m here too. 😊
Oh Lexi6, so sorry to hear that you’re all having to take extra precautions again, but as we all know there’s such a delicate balance to be performed by all nations and we all have to do the best that we can for each other. It remains good news that NZ is straight on it and we wish you all the very best outcomes for doing everything you can for each other!
Let’s run on and definitely feel very blessed that we still can. 🤗🤗❤️
Thanks Fab, you have a lovely way with words 🥰 lockdown first time round was hard but it was very comforting knowing that we weren’t going it alone and the caring and kindness shown towards each other then wasn’t a fluke. Its lovely to be able to say Happy Running back❤️
Thanks Alan yes our PM is pretty decisive, we’re expecting more cases, but getting in early 🤞it won’t get out of hand. I’m looking forward to doing a not parkrun on Saturday and delighted that I won’t be setting my alarm to be there for 8am. Will you be not parkrunning again?
This Saturday will be my 9th (not) parkrun and Damienair's 22nd Virtual Parkrun, I am enjoying those 5K runs on a Saturday morning, I think it won't be until next year, perhaps 2022 when official Parkruns return in the UK WITHOUT social distancing, they may return with social distancing sooner.
2022, I am referring to the year Lexi6, not my time running at a parkrun or any 5K, my PB 5K is 30.55, there was another run of 30.56 about six weeks later, I don't think that I will get a sub 30 minute 5k unless I got a pacer to come with me and shout every 10 seconds "you can do it" 😊
👍Enjoy your (not) parkrun on Saturday morning at a later time than eight o'clock, you can report back in the afternoon NZ time on Damienair's virtual not parkrun post which he sets up every Saturday morning UK time.
It is a shame but feel reassured that they’ve moved quickly and so far the new cases are all in Auckland 🤞hopefully it won’t have had the chance to spread further. We get to find out at 5.30 tonight whether another lockdown will happen x
Thanks BBr 😂 we’d had 102 days and the only cases of the virus we had were overseas travellers who were already in their 14 day isolation, so it was a huge disappointment, but it just doesn’t pay to be complacent with this virus. We’ve been advised to (voluntarily) wear masks, so will have to get creative, there’s been a rush and you can’t buy a mask for love nor money at the moment.
Will do a late morning slow non parkrun Adriene’s eased the hip, so won’t undo all her good work. xxx
It was grand Dexy 😊 but parkrun will be back and after seeing my latest parkrun photos 🤭 it may be prudent to tackle some of the lockdown extra k’s otherwise the photographer is going to need a wide angle lens for me next time. 🤰
Thats a deal Dexy I have deliberately kept away from the bathroom scales, but was horrified when I saw my last parkrun photo and then I was in denial when I tried on my new capris, thinking they’d sent me a smaller size in error, 3 kg is doable go us. 😂
Thanks Jonathan, but better now and stop the virus getting a grip. Good opportunity for me to do some hill work, so I can cope better with the parkrun uphill 😂
I totally missed this post last week. What a shame. I thought your corner of the world was clear. I hope you've nipped it in the bud and all is ok again soon.
Thanks Baddie, we were feeling pretty proud of ourselves too. We stay on level 2 lockdown now until 6 September and Auckland goes from 3 down to 2 next week. Its a nasty virus.
