I guess you're asking what you would paint it with? Hammerite? Chalk paint with a lacquer over the top? I don't know anything about the quiz - sorry - but I do know about painting stuff - just a little 🙂

a oh thank you very much, daughter wants a flowery watering can for her birthday and they cost loads so i thought i’d buy one paint it and then spend the other money on something else

The parkrun quiz is on YouTube every Saturday at 9.00 to stop you running your parkrun event then . The answer sheet is on google and they tell you where to find it. Alexander Vassos does it with his family, and you have to guess most of the answers but it is fun.

I cannot answer your watering can question though

How about this?

Alternatively, BaddieThePirate may know what sort of paint is used on pots, etc that adorn canal boats

I'm guessing the ones on the boats have primer, undercoat and top coat. I did an experiment and painted my boat front door with exterior gloss. It was cheaper than boat paint and is lasting well. I think the flowers etc are so e in coaching paint, like the signwriting (but I've never do e either). Good luck, it sounds like a lovely project.

I was wrong. It seems they use enamel paints, so ignore previous post!

Thanks for your input, I’ve bought crepe paper and something called mod podge to stick them on with then gloss over them with

It looks like it's water based, so won't be water proof. If you want to use the watering can you'll need something oil based.

Oh thank you i’ll get some yacht gloss to go over the top, i’ve bought stickers too in case my flowers fail

There are videos online on how to paint the traditional Buckby cans. Google 'roses and castles' which is what they traditionally paint on narrowboats.

The parkrun quiz is an exercise in how well you can guess each Saturday at 9am (or later if you can’t fit it in). A lot of the questions are completely impossible to answer so you wait for clues from the quizmaster Vassos. You can also get clues by listening to the day before’s parkrun podcast (highly recommended - I usually listen to it in the shower after parkrun (those were the days!).

If you’re lucky you may get a shout out during the quiz, just leave a comment on the YouTube rolling comments. That adds a bit of excitement (I’ve had two!) and makes up for the dreadful score at the end 🤣🤣

You also get a lovely story by Vassos’s daughter Mary afterwards 😊

Re the other thing: I can only think of Hammerite like everyone else. We have catmint growing in our plastic one - loads of uses for a dead watering can...but I guess you wanted to know what to do with the paint 🤭

I’ve had many dead watering cans in my time 😀this is for daughters birthday she’s not a gardener but said she wants a watering can one with flowers on so i thought i’d do it this way

I will try the quiz before long up til now my saturdays are just too full to add anything

Oh what a lovely idea! I suppose the old Airfix paints might do it too? I think they’re Humbrol now? Smaller tins for lots of bright colours.

I’m trying to keep the old parkrun routine up so they don’t get filled up with anything else when it comes back!
