You are doing great but why not give yourself a break. Instead of trying to keep repeating 5k why not head out one day for 20minutes, or to run just a certain part of a nice route. Just because people reach 5k or 10k doesn't mean every run then has to be that length. Try a few shorter runs and mix them up to regain your confidence and enjoyment. Happy running 🤗
I suppose I think the more I aim for 5k the Easier it will become. Maybe I well try mixing it a bit more. I just want to feel that I am still improving in the same way I was on the C25K plan
Definitely better to mix them up, we all fit in shorter runs than are current long run, could you imagine if you’d reached marathon distance then felt every run should be marathon length 🤣 change routes too if possible, hills really improve stamina, or do a favourite run in reverse. Happy running 🤗
I don’t believe walking is cheating. I had a look at walk-run-walk and have started running 8 minutes, then really fast walking for 30 seconds. I did this for 5k and stuck to the intervals, tired or not.apparently it gives the running muscles a few seconds to recover. The strange thing is, at the end, my average pace was a tiny bit faster. I try to walk as fast as I can , with my arms in the ‘running’ position , and keeping to the plan even if I don’t need to walk...worth a try?
I’m with Grannyhugs on this... vary it up a little. You’ve had a break from the progression, and 5k every run can get a little boring. Go have a shorter fun run next time out.
Hey, don't lack confidence. You still did the 5k, by hook or by crook. Definitely mix things up. Shorter fast ones, even if it's short! Also longer slower ones with no pressure on yourself. The slower the better. Experiment and enjoy different styles of run. Maybe a short, medium and longer one each week even if it's incremental in time or distance. Definitely jazz it up. I'm no expert at all, but I'd only do a straight 5k once in a while now. Keep going though 😊
Good advice but you have managed to get to 10k and quite quickly and I want to see myself improving each week as in C25K plan. I will try mixing it I think 👍
Yes I have now started thinking about new music, route and looking for something that will encourage me like Jo Wiley by not talk all the time like coach Bennett 🙄 some one who knows when to shut up 😂
Well done... as others have said, you could break up the runs a bit? I also dont see what you are doing as 'cheating' , this is your time to run as you like...are you training for something particular that says you have to run a certain way? I often do run/ walk as it heals to break it up, especially when I am tired.
No I’m not training for anything I just want to move forward rather than, seemingly, staying stuck that’s all 🤗 I think I will change things around a bit as it’s stupid to keep doing the same thing over and over without a change 🌻
Oh yes I’ve noticed those but I don’t understand what they are for 🤔 yes it does seem to change from run to run - not a lot just a tiny bit. Maybe that’s making it more difficult 🤷♀️
I’m no expert but I agree with what all the others have said.
I think you are putting too much pressure on yourself to improve. If you take up on some of the suggestions run slowly or walk if you want, keep doing it you will improve it will creep up on you, don’t rush it, enjoy your runs that’s the important bit.
Yes I think you are definitely right. I also see that you are doing really well on the Magic Plan so I’ll be interested to see how it continues as I am looking to start that at some stage hopefully
I just realised who you are in our strava club!! I would deffo mix in some shorter runs for sure, as maybe your body is getting a bit tired with constant 5ks? It will get easier for all of us, I am sure!! X
I do recognise the points you are making. I graduated from C25K just over a week ago and have continued with 3 * 30 minute runs over the last seven days.
Finding more aches and pains in my ankle and knee than when doing C25K though. Think I have reached my limit. However the feeling after each run is still enough motivation for me to continue but perhaps recognising my limitations.
It's fantastic that you are so ambitious to improve. Reading the advice others have given it sounds that mixing up your running routine is the way forward
I agree it is the feeling afterwards that makes me want to run again. Maybe the same goes for you though as well. You just graduated a week ago so maybe ease up a bit and do 2 runs a week for a little while. There’s no rush for anything 👍🌻
