First post graduation run. No energy. Try again tomorrow?

Took two days off after graduation. Rode my bike or walked instead, so still getting plenty of exercise. Slept badly last night but decided to run anyway. Steamy and still. Forgot to eat my banana. May not have had enough water yesterday. At 23 minutes total I gave up. Just didn't have anything in the tank. I then had to walk 1.5km back to the car.

And I've been sitting around the rest of the day. Even took a nap (very unusual). Total lack of energy today.

I already feel as though I'm sliding off because I don't have a program and goal - well, I would like to get to 5k first, improve my pace, and then get to 10k, but beyond consolidation runs I haven't made a plan.

30 minutes is still really hard. I had to rerun one of my week 9 runs as I ran out of steam before the end. If I feel rested and hydrated in the morning would it be crazy to try again? My legs feel fine - no soreness at all. If a stupid idea then I'll ride tomorrow and try again Monday (no time on Sunday).

Thanks for any advice...

Give yourself a few days off running before your next 30 minutes consolidation run, drink plenty of water the day before you run and a little before you run, run it a little slower than you did today, as for a plan, go to the Stepping stones podcasts with Laura which are pace, speed and stamina, after that you can try Ju Ju's Magic 10 plan if you want to run a 10K in the future.

Go gently on yourself it can feel bewildering and such a challenge to work out what next. I used the app still warming up and cooling down outside of it. That will guide you towards 40mins and 5k. Change routes and experiment. I have tried not to get hung up on continual improvement, it doesn’t come every run but with consistency is the broader pattern . Remind yourself well done, you are a runner 😀

Wow , you ran for 23 minutes that’s grit , determination and fantastic because you didn’t give up.

Im sure you could not have done that on W1R1 ?

Yes, it’s been a challenge , you have achieved so much on your journey:)

You will run 30 minutes, you will run 5K you will get fitter , yes you will find it gets easier , yes you will have fun and yes you will have bad days :)

My neighbours a marathon runner . Her story is similar! She has crappy days too. She told me , some days she starts off for a run (13 miles) and decide , ops I can’t do this today and just comes home!

We too need to listen to our bodies and go with the flow knowing it’s ok.

I’m a slow plodder and have kept it slow. I graduated April 17 and can say by keeping it slow I have improved .

You will achieve you target whatever that look like :) and congratulations in advance :) 🐾

Well done getting this far. Hot weather running is hard so dont stress. Dont push yourself to run consecutive days, especially when you are cycling too. If you are looking for an interim goal count your minutes or miles per month then all runs count towards your monthly goal. Happy running 🤗

Sounds like you’re doing fab and maybe just need a rest. I highly recommend the Stepping Stone podcasts for a step up structure. But deffo rest, I learnt that one the hard way and was out of the game for about 8 weeks. Good luck 👍🏻

I'm very naughty. I felt like I could run 30 this morning. So I did. Couldn't have run any further and was at my usual slow pace (3.5km in 30 mins). But it's done. Two days off now and back at it on Tuesday.
