I'm just over a month into my repeat of Bridge to 10k. I think I'm enjoying it because I'm keeping the runs regular. I still have a little bit of dread when it comes to the longer run of the week, but I know I can do it, because I've done it before!
I've been getting a bit carried away with my speed. I got all excited last week when I slashed a huge chunk off my 5k PB, and found myself overdoing the speed as a result, thus ending up making myself feel rotten after my last long run. I have now made a promise to myself to slow it down a bit, and concentrate on the distance, which after all, was the point of the exercise! Oh - and I need to rehydrate and refuel properly afterwards too 😒
Has anyone else made a silly mistake in their running life?

You're doing great. My mistakes were winter ones. I kept forget that I dont do cold and really need to wear gloves, kept making myself ill. So bad on last cold run that my HR dropped so low on returning to house that I passed out 🤒 keep the fast runs for short ones take the long runs slowly then when you get to consolidation again you can increase speed. Happy running 🤗
Yes! Tonight I had tea, hadn’t had much water (I was going to run tomorrow instead due to weather and not preparing) but then heard an upbeat song and dreamt I could easily do run 1 week 4, 20 mins. Quickly stuck my gear on and ran. Got to 17 mins and thought pffft! Yet other night did 44 minutes and felt like I could keep going! We beat ourselves up don’t we!
I graduated c25k at end of Feb this year, and I have made a few cracking mistakes since then 😬
These include ;
1/ not hydrating properly, especially on the days before a long run. And then really struggling as a result. Lesson learned ✅
And, my main one
2/ pushing myself too much and too often and too soon.
That resulted in my injuring my knee, which kept me off running for 7 weeks until today.
I didn’t realise before this happened, but the good folks on here informed me that as newbie runners we build up our aerobic ability really quickly and can run for longer and faster BUT it takes a longer time for the muscles around our ligaments and joints to catch up.
To avoid this fundamental mistake, please ensure you do stretching and strengthening exercises to build up those important muscles around our ligaments and joints , and core strength.
