Do my 17week training plan came to an end last week. I started it in Feb, it was a Garmin Coach plan. I’d recommend it if you’ve got a Garmin watch. My plan was based on completing a 10k on June 12th.
As there are no races happening in the UK at the moment, I decided to complete my training on a real 10k route. I’m lucky enough to live half an hours drive from the New Forest. So I choose the NF 10k route near Brokenhurst. It’s mainly off road on tracks and a small bit on a road.
I went to bed early and then woke up at 03:30 and could not get back to sleep. So I got up, had a bowl of oats and set out for the Forest. I did some warm ups and walked briskly for 1k. Then I was off. The routed isn’t marked, but I had done a recky the week before, so knew it in my head. I’d printed out a map just in case. I also placed a bottle of water on the route about 7k in, just in case I needed.
It’s quite empty in the Forest at the moment, as the campsites are still closed, so at 6am it’s very quiet. Just the pony’s and deer out am about.
I did a pretty good job or keeping my pace slow at the beginning be speeding up around the 5k mark. I really pushed it at the end. I was very pleased with a time of 1hr and 5seconds. Such a lovely place to do a 10k and while I was always by myself I did let out a cheer as I crossed the imaginary finish line 🏆

Well done Bladerunner2049, both for getting up that early in the morning 😳, and your amazing 10K...that's a fabulous time you achieved, we all strive for a 1hr 10K!
Congratulations on the 10k, and sounds like it was a great place to do it as well. I’d second your recommendation of the Garmin Coach. I’m eight weeks into the half marathon plan and it’s really helped mix up my runs from my usual 2 x 5k and a longer weekend run. Speed repeats, time trials etc all scheduled on the watch are great.
