Ive been running since last May, completed c25k and recently worked my way up to running 10k.
Today I ran 11k at a normal calm pace, but throughout I was getting warnings that my heartrate was around 180 (I'm 40 years old btw) which confused me as I really wasn't pushing hard.
So I finish and my app says my effort level was excessive(?) and my times per km are nothing to shout about.
I'm confused as I genuinely feel like I'm getting slower as the months go on, and now my heart rate is too high when not pushing... Any advice please would be very appreciated.
I run with a high HR can reach 180 or higher by the end of long runs - very fit, slim 57 or old female. Asked doc about it - shes a runner. Her response was congratulations at being able to run with such high HR. As I have no other indicators of any heart problem, resting hr 63, after exercise returns to normal range she wasnt concerned. I changed all range markers on garmin to reflect my high HR. If in doubt get checked out then like me adjust ranges on your tracker or just ignore the readings. Btw I also wear a HR strap linked to garmin so know I'm getting accurate readings. Hope this helps. Happy running 🤗
My 36 year old gets up to 180 average on quick 10k runs and he is slim and fit. At 68 years old, my highest average rate doesn't get above 150 and that only happens when I really push it. My stats are mainly just about age. I am with GH; get it checked if you have any concerns, but absent any problem, it is great that you have that capacity. As I got fitter the average heart rate for the same level of performance dropped naturally. At the same time, year on year, I know that my maximum heart rate will reduce just because of the ageing process! My chances of an Olympic place don't look good now! 🙂
