Those longer runs are paying dividends as I got into the 37 mins for my 5K today -this was unheard of a few months ago but the regular training is helping -astonished at 7.34 min/km. I have been seeing a lot written on strengthening glutes so may need to look in to this to have more of a push. Hoping to reach 10K in the next month - weather could do to buck up but delighted with my Sunday trot .
An extra push: Those longer runs are paying... - Bridge to 10K
An extra push
Hey well done! Ive just graduated 5k after having two years away from running due to a knee injury. This time round I am definitely a good minute and a half quicker per mile. The only difference I think is the strength work Ive done over the past six months, finally doing the glute and hip exercises recommended by the physio. I got some booty bands, man they are small but evil!!!! (mine are the arena strength fabric ones).
I honestly never thought I would be able to run a 5k sub 40 minutes, but I am almost there.
Good luck and onwards and upwards!
Fantastic effort, it’s amazing how just extending the length of runs boosts your ability to run short distances faster - win win. Good luck with the rest of your journey to 10k. Happy running 🤗
This is interesting as I did my first sub-40 (actually sub-39 😀) 5k last week, my third PB 5k in lockdown ... and I have been doing an online Pilates class every weekday with my daughter, so there has been a lot of glute-strengthening going on!! It has definitely had an effect on my running.
