2 years ago on my birthday I was unable to walk up stairs without getting out of breath... last year I was busy but managed to get a mile in... this year most of us have too much time on our hands so I figured I’d do more.
Saturday is parkrun day and I’m really missing it. I’ve been donating my parkrun time to help others, and when I got home this morning at 10ish, I figured I’d go and get a run in. 5k just before lunchtime was cool, 0.9 mile laps and I set off at the same time as a woman, who I hadn’t met before, and we ran opposite directions, which was interesting, and while I was slightly faster, she had the longer incline, I went uphill on the straighter side, so we figured we pretty much had the same pace today. Back home, walk the dogs. Little bit of strength and flex work, late lunch feet up. Then this evening I had to go pick the wife up... got there an hour early, laced those shoes and hit another 5k up, walked back to car, stretched, changed my shoes and just sat back in the car as she got in the other side. Now I think it’s wine time, while I think just how much has changed in the last two years.

Brilliant markers of your fitness journey, UNM. 👏🏼🎉👍 Award yourself a well deserved gold star, as well as wine - and I hope there was cake somewhere in there! 🎶🎵🎶🍷🎂
She’s ok... bit of cabin fever, but who hasn’t? Not doing much running... but there’s a boy on the scene so FaceTime is the main focus. In a break with tradition, I actually like the lad 🤣 and he’s wanting to try a parkrun when it restarts, so that could get little miss back into it!
Very strange year all round... my wife was working on Mother’s Day so chose to do it the next weekend (we often have to timeshift some events) and then some of her team had to self isolate so she worked the next two Sundays and by the time we could give her a day, lockdown was in full effect. Then little Miss UNM’s birthday got acknowledged but shifted (she’s really excited about having the half birthday celebration this year) now mine is the same... we are planning to celebrate everything still, one weekend after another, but we won’t be doing it for a while, even if the restaurants are open in July, we’re thinking it’ll be autumn for us.
Yeah... I saw, and I do have a ticket open with them over it... all I need now is a switch to turn segments off altogether as it still compares me to myself 🤪
I’ve split my long runs before... but as I haven’t run over 5k in one go for a while this was a little different... noticeably slower on the second run. Now, all I need to do is reduce the rest between these intervals by about 7 hours and I’m back at 10k 🤣
Fantastic UNM!!🤩 I’m glad you had such a wonderful and happy birthday!! I can just imagine you sitting nice, calm & content in the car saying hi!! After a 5k run!! You’ve done brilliantly!! Very inspiring!
I certainly did... but just a couple as I had to drive this morning.
Wowzers! Hope you enjoyed that wine. I love posts like this. This is one reason why I'm in it for. What progress and what focus and determination!! You can now literally 'lace up and go.'
Oops... replied here with my reply for the above reply!
Yeah... I enjoyed some wine, but the ability to just go run whenever I feel the need is amazing. Took a while to safely remove a rest day a couple of times over the last 12 months of course.
