Inspiration books on running?

Hello there,

To complement my running and to get inspiration and advice, I picked up Murakami's "What I talk about when I talk about running".

I'm enjoying it immensely and finding myself wanting to go out more often (which is great) but I'm also intimidated because Murakami is a multiple marathon runner. Needless to say, that's not me!

I would really welcome book suggestions about running - inspirational but also relatable. Books that make you want to lace up those running shoes and head out :)

Thanks so much!

I have only read 1 book about running.

Run like a girl, it's funny its heartwarming and some of the book you actually feel like you're there with her 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

I saw that come up in my Google search. Looks good. I'm (hopefully) beyond the beginner level - would the book still be useful, do you think?

It's more of a story about her running journey😊

Good to know. It sounds like a fun book, though. Have a good day!

I enjoyed the Murakami book - rather more unreservedly than his fiction!

Boff Whalley's Running Wild, Richard Askwith's Running Free (and his biography of Emil Zatopek, Today We Die A Little)

Just finished the Murakami book this weekend and was a little sad that it is so slim! I'll check out Running Wild and Running Free. Thank you very much for the suggestions!

I agree I would like to read about running, but the books all seem to be by ultra-marathon runners! I'd like something inspiring and interesting, particularly about the psychological aspects of running, but even searching for videos comes up with ultra marathon runners!

Definitely agree! Ultra-marathoners are cook but I was looking for something more relatable. I can't see myself running a marathon (anytime soon) let alone an ultramarathon and I think of those people as very different from myself. There have been some really good suggestions in response to my post - i hope you find them useful too!

I am not quite sure if this is quite what you are looking for but I listened to David Goggins book 'Can't Hurt Me' as an audio book while running last year and really enjoyed it, it also kept me going when I felt like stopping...

It actually wasn't what I was looking for (I was looking for books about running) but thank you for the suggestion! It looks like a wonderful book and I'm definitely adding it to my wishlist. I'm sure my husband would love it too.

I haven't actually tried an audiobook while running - do you listen to a chapter or do you just listen to however much you can during runs of a certain length?

Many thanks for the suggestion!

Sorry maybe slightly off topic but David Goggins is an ultra marathon runner and there is quite a bit in the book about that . . . I usually just listen until I've finished running then pick it up again next time.

I didn't realise that he is an ultra marathoner - the Amazon review talks about his being a Navy Seal. I'll definitely check it out!

I haven't read it yet, but it's on my list. Jog on by Bella Mackie. It's about someone who took up running to tackle depression and anxiety.

I loved reading inspirational running books! I have been posting my recommendations on the C25K forum, roughly one a week. If you are interested, click on my profile - you should be able to see my book posts on there. 👍

I clicked on your profile this weekend and was immersed in your recommendations - so wonderful! Thank you so much.

I love reading in general too and am looking to incorporate some running books too. So recommendations on running books and other books always welcome.

Where is the rectangular photo for your profile taken? Switzerland?

Thanks very much again.

Oh you are welcome! I hope some of them appeal. 🤓

The photo was taken in Sirmione, on the shore of Lake Garda, Italy. Absolutely stunning place. The light was so magical. ♥️ When things are “safe” again, I look forward to visiting g beautiful Italy again.

Stay well and happy running to you. xxx

I loved that book, too. I read Bryony Gordon’s book Eat, Drink, Run which was enjoyable and I have Born To Run on my list. 🌸😊🌸

Thanks very much! Amazon (I know, I know...) shows Bryony's book as only an audiobook - did you have a hard copy?

I have heard of Born to Run and need to add it to my list too. Thanks again!
