Is running 5k 3 times in 8 days too much ? Am running to lose weight and keep fit but think I need time doing core strength. Am not sure what the right balance is ? I also think the resulting tiredness putting me off having a go at 10k

Patience 😃

You build strength as you go.

No need to run 5k three times at week at all. you’ll lose weight if you eat healthily and keep moving. No need for speed though. Walking even torches calories. I was losing weight and trying to get fit. I walked a lot and still do. I walk almost exclusively these days

Increasing run distance is less boring than doing the same run over and over

Build distance by no more than 10% a week. You’ll be amazed how quick the time goes

Run every other day, and on non-run days by all means do strength/core work. Mix things up though - yoga, swimming (when we’re allowed 🙄), cycling etc. Whatever you like doing 🙂 I’m doing joe wicks PE at the moment 💪🙂

If you check out the pinned posts it explains routes for development post C25k. There’s plenty to be doing. C25k+ Stepping stones is the follow-on programme. Have a read of it as it’s all explained 👍

Running 5k in 8 days all depends where you are in your journey. To loose weight you need to use more calories than you consume- it doesn’t matter what you do to use up those calories. Be realistic as to how many calories you are actually burning- for me a 35min 5k is only just over 200 calories so no treats after my run if I was loosing weight. Mixing up routes and distances is great fun and helps ensure happy running 🤗

If you’re not enjoying it I’d suggest it’s not fight for you. After I finished the program I struggled with that but once there’s no guide, just mix it up. Go for shorter runs, do some walk/runs but maybe try to run faster then (intervals), or try different routes. It’s important just to get out there so don’t scunner yourself (that’s a good Scots word that means put yourself off!!). Good luck

Thanks Am not put off in any way just trying to get a longer term plan in my head. No ambition to run further than 5k really but I think running works legs really well but trying to lose belly more whilst maintaining my current level of Cardio fitness Thanks for your help

I wasn’t trying to lose weight but I found my shape changed a lot - more defined waist and stronger core. It takes time - good luck

I usually run/walk between 5.6 - 5.8 km every second day. Sometimes it may be only on a third day depending on the weather. I just run for whatever time and distance it feels good. Don’t worry if it is too much or not enough. Just do what you feel like doing. I am 73 and have learn to just enjoy the moment. In between I may do a couple of push ups or lift tiny weights. I like the look of them, they are light green and look so cute, I just have to use them. Then I may do housekeeping at leisure for my Core Strength. I am only doing what I am doing for myself and it works for me. 🥰
