Piriformus advice please

I’ve been following the 10K plan and am up to running 9.5K. I’ve developed what I think is Piriformus syndrome. A tight dull painful cramp at the top of my thigh at the back. I’m not sure if it’s okay to run with this or not? It was quite painful today so I stopped my run at 3K ☹️Any advice please?

It may be worth getting professional advice, if you can’t get a face to face appointment with a sports physio you’ll find most are offering video consultations just now. Hope you get a diagnosis and solution soon. 🤗

Thank you, I’ll try getting a video consultation. 😀

I found a foam roller helps with this. Maybe take a few days off to see if it eases a bit .

This is the one I bought from ebay

Thanks, I’ve been trying to keep running but it’s not getting better, so a few days resting it sounds like a good idea.

The advice about a consult with a physio sounds good.

Ouch! Piriformis stopped me running for a couple of weeks when I was increasing distance on the Bridge but after looking up lots of youtube videos (pigeon pose especially) and always stretching after runs, I’ve had no trouble since. 😊

Than you Lexi. Same thing, it started when I began increasing distance. So hopefully, like you I won't have to miss my runs for too long. It's great that you didn't get it again. 😀

I used to do pigeon pose every night before bed, but have recently slacked off, so thank you for reminding me. The stretch really does workand well done, nearly there to 10k 👍

ThanksLexi for the pigeon pose tip. I’ve changed my chair at work as I work with young children. That, combined with the stretches is really helping. Well done for getting back into your nightly pigeon pose and for your running too. I’m hoping to try a short run at the weekend and see how things go.
