Today whilst running, very slowly and trying to keep away from the millions of other people who have suddenly taken up running or dog walking, my legs were really painful. Along the front, outside edge of the shin bone, both legs. It felt like the muscle there was really really tight, and walking was even more painful than running. It was so painful I could not continue and had to come home. About 10minutes after the run the pain has almost gone. A quick google search makes me think it doesn’t sound like shin splints. Anyone any ideas?

Pain in my shins
Sorry E, I don’t know. How frustrating and worrying for you. I hope you get some answers and this passes soon. Sending some sympathy your way x
Shin splints is a generic term for pain in that area, although some people ascribe it to a specific injury.
Have you done anything different?
Run further, faster, different shoes, etc?
Are you running more often? (I’m knackered trying to keep up with Boris’ directive of running every day. )
Maybe what @SlowLoris says, a change in something?
Changing anything quickly gives me all sorts of aches and pains.
New shoes (Hoka One One) - shin splits (very much like you describe). Had to buy more new shoes.
Speeding up without warming up - stomach cramps like you wouldn't belive (unless you're a woman who gets bad period pains).
Increased time - runner's toe after anything longer than 30 mins
Increased distance by too much - pain on outside of right knee that leaves me almost incapable of walking and then goes away never to return, unless I increase distance agian by too much.
Since making changes in small increments, warming up at the start of the run (run slowly for 5 mins even after 5 min walk) and moving back to Nike Pegasus 36s, I've been fine apart from the runner's toe. I suspect it will be blackening nicely over the coming weeks.
