A few steps forward and some back

Still trying to consolidate the 5k. But my last 2 runs have resulted in a wobble. I manage the first mile but then feel a bit dizzy and sick, the next mile is completed with walk and run segments but by the 3rd mile I am able to run it all again. Data suggests I am going a tiny bit faster (very very tiny) and I do have breakfast a good hour before I run. I think it is because I am starting to feel a bit stronger and my body is trying to adjust to that (and not quite getting it right). Anyway I have some new shoes and have reduced my distances to break them in. May be that might help consolidate my new found strength.

Love a bit of shoe porn.,🥰 I run short runs without eating and longer runs perhaps a banana at least an hour before running. Perhaps slow down even more?

Fab shoes, loving the colour! I can’t offer much advice as I’m also consolidating and trying to find my way. But I think that’s what consolidation is all about, experimenting. I know I’m finding it quite hard!

Thank you. Helpful to know I am not alone. I was ill in January so had to restart after not running for a month. Now back where I was when I graduated from C25k in November. Would just like to be able to run 5k consistently.

I am slow too, hence the desire to get stronger. I did complete the 5k by running it all at graduation but it was very slow. I have run/walked it since (faster then when I ran it all). I am getting faster but very very gradually.

Slow is a very personal thing. Compared to my son in law I'm so slow he could be crawling. However, I'm aiming for about 100k a month at my comfortable slow speed and he crams in about 20k a month aiming for crazy fast speeds. Who's the better runner? Run happy at the speed that allows you to complete your chosen distance. 🤗

Very true Grannyhugs. I am still very much at the early stages, still looking for my ‘speed’. Just glad to be able to do anything.

Are you keeping properly hydrated as well as eating? Try starting at your slowest pace and increase pace as you warm up (says the worst person in the world for setting off too fast 😂)

Thanks, I tend to go with the pace that feels comfortable as I assume my body knows best. I think it is still working it out. A few shorter runs to break in new shoes might help. Planning to do 2 miles today so will see how it goes.
