I wasn't meant to run tonight on the grounds that I was supposed to be refereeing a 7s tournament tomorrow. Unfortunately, due to the deepening Covid-19 crisis, the SRU have taken the step of cancelling all domestic rugby in Scotland until further notice. While this is no doubt disappointing to many, it is an entirely sensible and understandable step to take in the circumstances.
Combine this with the fact that no one knows for sure if parkruns will be held tomorrow (and no one could blame anyone if they were cancelled), it meant I suddenly found myself at something of a loose end.
Fortunately, there is a virtual 5k challenge (courtesy of New York Road Runners) happening this weekend (there's also a half marathon challenge, but there was no way I was doing that tonight); so I laced up my trail shoes and went for a leisurely lollop along the old railway path and through the woods, and added another 5.15km to Team HU's total for the Vitality Running World Cup. Managing an average pace of 6:25/km, it actually wasn't quite as leisurely as I had intended, but it was certainly a good way to close out the working week.
To anyone with an organised run going ahead this weekend, good luck; and stay safe everyone.

It blew away some cobwebs and it was nice to be able to do that particular route after work again for the first time this year, as it was light enough to do so (even with my headlight, I wouldn't run that route in the dark, too many trip hazards)
Sorry about the Wales Scotland match being cancelled tomorrow, but I am sure you are very happy about last weeks win against France.
On the Parkrun Website there is a post saying that if all the parkruns are cancelled all runners will get a e mail, if that happens I will run a 5K near to where I live adding to the Vitality Running World Cup kilometers which I am a team member of Healthunlocked.
I don't there are any parkruns in Scotland with as many as 500 running, Pollock and Edinburgh have the most, with around 400 on a good Saturday, nevertheless they could all still be off. In England there are many with over 500 running, Bushy Park Parkrun has more than a 1000 runners.
Cramond (ie Edinburgh) can have 600-800 runners. Trouble is, if you cancel it, those runners start going to Vogrie or Portobello (who normally get around 200) so you have to close them too, so then they spill over to Meadowmill etc...
There are 6 parkruns in and around the Lothians, so across them all, on any given Saturday, there could be up to 1200 parkrunners in the region. It's a difficult one to call.
I may just take advantage of the opportunity to actually have a lie in for a change. Think I'll wait and see what the weather is doing around 8am tomorrow...
