The tournament has started and team HU is going great, congratulations to everyone who has signed up, joined the team and successfully recorded runs ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

If youโ€™re not in yet, or are having difficulties, maybe you will find something in this post that will help. It contains links to the official VRWC website (which has more information than the app) plus things we have discovered along the way, largely by trial and error!

The official FAQs supplied by Vitality can be found here: runningworldcup.com/help-an...

Topics covered in this post:

โ˜… Signing up

โ˜… Joining team HU

โ˜… Which runs count

โ˜… Checking your runs are being recognised (still lots of problems here)

โ˜… Duplicated distances

โ˜… Individual goals

โ˜… Country Leaderboard

Hope this information proves useful. I will pin this post in Bridge and in Marathon and add to it if we learn more. Do comment below if you have any useful tips, or indeed if you are still having difficulties.

Happy Running Everyone - Go Team HU!! ๐Ÿ†

----

โญSigning up!

If you havenโ€™t signed up yet, but would like to represent your country for free, there is still time!

You can find out more and register here: runningworldcup.com/

You can choose to register with your full real name, or you can use your forum name (or a variant of it, so long as you enter something into both First and Last name) to protect your anonymity. The VRWC support team have confirmed that forum names are OK, despite what it says on the registration screen!

โญ Joining the HU team!

There is also still time to join HU (in theory you can be a member of more than one team, but there is some evidence that this doesn't work properly at the moment, with runs only being reported under one team).

Once you have registered, you can join the HU team by following this link: app.runningworldcup.com/tea...

You will be added to the team with whatever name you registered with ๐Ÿ˜Š

For anyone who has already signed up but would like to change their name to reflect their HU name, you can do so by editing your profile via this link app.runningworldcup.com/pro...

โ˜… Do check you really have joined the HU team!

I suggest you double check that your name appears on the HU team member list (a few people have had problems and had to try more than once). To check, either use this link app.runningworldcup.com/teams or click on โ€˜Teamsโ€™ on the left hand side of the website when you are signed into your account. If youโ€™re in, team HU should show, and if you click on โ€˜membersโ€™ you should be able to see your name listed.

โญ Which runs count!

Only runs of at least 3km, where the 3km are completed within 30 minutes will be considered valid and count towards your country total and individual goal (even though shorter runs currently seem to be included in the team member list)

โญ Check your runs are being recognised!

Sadly lots of people seem to have had problems getting their runs to register in the VRWC. If youโ€™re having problems then have a read through and see if you can find anything here to help.

โ˜… Check your tracker is connected

If you have successfully connected your tracker(s) you should already be able to see these tracker(s) when you use this link: app.runningworldcup.com/con... or click on โ€˜Run Trackersโ€™ on the left hand side of the website. If itโ€™s not there, then something has gone wrong โ€“ most likely the sign in details you input when trying to link the tracker (note, this has nothing to do with the details you used to register, it is based on the sign in details you supply when you try to link the tracker). Try again.

โ˜… Check your runs are being found

Even though you have connected your tracker, sometimes runs are not being picked up.

You should be able to see your runs if you use this link app.runningworldcup.com/runs or click on โ€˜My runsโ€™ on the left hand side of the website; then click on your connected tracker.

Firstly, you should see each of the trackers you have linked.

Secondly, if you click on the tracker(s) listed, you should be able to see all runs registered by that tracker since you linked that tracker (and even further back in the case of Strava).

If you canโ€™t, then for some reason the VRWC system has not yet got access to your activities, despite having successfully signed into your tracker account. So far, many of the instances we have looked at have arisen because of tight privacy options being set in the tracker itself. In my case, Strava was fine because I have pretty loose security, but nothing was being picked up from my Garmin; however, once I changed my Garmin privacy options my subsequent runs started to show.

โ˜… Check your tracker privacy options

Garmin

1. Sign in to your garmin connect account connect.garmin.com/signin

2. Top right hand corner there is your garmin icon - click on this 'profile and account' button and then select 'account settings' from the drop down list

3. Select 'privacy settings' from the list on the left hand side

4. Check the setting for 'activity' on this screen; I have mine set to 'connections', but I think it can be anything EXCEPT 'only me' (because 'only me' means nothing can look at your activities even if you have allowed access to your garmin account).

Strava

1. Sign in to your Strava connect account strava.com/login

2.Top right hand corner there is your Strava icon - click on this button and then select settings' from the drop down list

3. Select 'privacy controls from the list on the left hand side

4. Check the setting for 'activities' on this screen; I have mine set to everyone, but itโ€™s possible โ€˜followersโ€™ may work too (because 'only youโ€™ means nothing can look at your activities even if you have allowed access to your strava account).

Mapmyrun

1. Sign in to your Mapmyrun connect account mapmyrun.com/

2.Top right hand corner there is your Mapmyrun icon - click on this button and then select settings' from the drop down list

3. Select 'privacy settings from the list on the left hand side

4. Check the setting for workouts on this screen; I have mine set to โ€˜friendsโ€™, , but I think it can be anything EXCEPT 'only me' (because 'privateโ€™ means nothing can look at your activities even if you have allowed access to your mapmyrun account).

I donโ€™t personally use the other tracker types, but Iโ€™m sure it will be a similar process!

โ˜… Failing all the above

It is possible to submit details of the activity, with a screenshot of your activity, in order for vrwc to add it manually. This was their response:

โ€˜We are sorry you have having issues with getting your run into our system but please do allow 24 hours for it to appear before worrying. If it has not appeared after 24 hours, we have a document that hopefully can help, and also a manual process if you are really stuck to ensure that your run will be on your account, please visit runningworldcup.com/runs-no... for full details.โ€™

โญ Duplicated distances!

Where people have more than one tracker connected (to cover for trackers not being picked p correctly!), distances are currently being duplicated. This is a big in the VRWC system which they assure us will be fixed. In the meantime the leaderboards arenโ€™t totally accurate.

โญ Individual goals!

Individual goals have been added to try to keep up interest for people who's countries get knocked out as we go through the tournament! The default goal for the first week is 5km, and the algorithm is for this to increase by 10% each week if you keep hitting the goal. However, it is not necessary to run this goal distance. It's great if you join the challenge - but it's meant to be for fun, not so anyone feels they have to run at a certain pace or for a certain distance. Please don't be pressured into anything just because of this tournament!

โญ Checking the country leaderboard!

Remember youโ€™re running for your country! To see how your country is currently doing, check out the leaderboard: runningworldcup.com/leaderb...

Oh, I'll change that right now. I thought this morning someone said you couldn't be. Thanks for the update.

Having signed up to the HU team, I later signed up for an additional team. My run today wasn't showing up for Team HU but WAS showing up for my other team. I quit the other team and my run immediately showed up for Team HU. So while it's possible to sign up for more than one team, in my experience, it can cause problems.

Thanks for this. I will edit the post accordingly.

Thanks linda9389 ...those links are so useful, Iโ€™m saving this post xx

Thanks, really useful. Mine was linking to Strava with no probs at all, even pulled in my first qualifying run, and now has just stopped! Not only can it not seem to see today's run, but I've lost my first one :(

Silly thing! Used their "log manually by sending screenshots" link so hopefully will reappear at some point!!

linda9389 profile image
linda9389Graduate10 in reply to Parky88

I'm leaving strava linked to see if it ever gets to pick my strava data up (like you, mine was fine last week!). Luckily I also have garmin linked, so my run is in there.

Mapmyrun seems to be working fine, so that's always another option to consider. Surely though, they will get strava sorted, else it makes the whole tournament a bit of joke!!! Good luck going forwards.

Thanks, yeah I've since seen the email saying they're having issues with strava but hopefully fixed within 48 hours, so will keep an eye on it ๐Ÿ‘

linda9389Graduate10 in reply to Parky88

Ahh, I haven't seen that. Yesterday they replied to me saying wait 24 hours. Last weekend it was very glitchy, but it got back to it's feet early in the week so hopefully all will work out. Then they'll have a heap of manual forms to sift through as well ๐Ÿ˜

Thanks for this! I couldnโ€™t find our team through the search engine on the Vitality website but your link worked perfectly.

Thank you for all your hard work giving us this helpful info Linda. Iโ€™m using garmin and my run has registered fine today. Itโ€™s much more fun running for the HU team than just on my own for the UK ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง

linda9389 profile image
linda9389Graduate10 in reply to jayval70

Agreed! So glad Garmin is working for you. We've got distances registered for about 75% of our HU team and hopefully once they sort strava we'll all be able to take part. Go team HU ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

I ran again this morning and used fitbit and mapmyrun to track. Again, it showed double distance on the VR world cup so I have de authorised mapmyrun now. I think they use your week's distance total to set your next goal so I didn't want to have double the distance, even though it looked really impressive!

Haha! I deuthorised mapmy run for exactly the same reason!

Hi pete1212 I understand from Hidden that you are trying to join team HU in the vitality running world cup. If you take a look at the info in this post it should help. It starts with signing up, moves on to joining the team and then discusses how to set up your tracker to make sure your runs are picked up. Just comment here if you have any issues. Good luck and welcome to the team!

Thanks for this! Nice to have a new fun motivation. I've joined & plan to add a 3k to the team tomorrow morning :-)

Fantastic! Now we're in the knockout rounds runs will only count for country on Saturdays and Sundays, but you should see tomorrow's run count towards your personal goal and in the 'my runs' section as they are updated with every run. I'm not sure about the team, that might just be Saturday and Sunday but you will find out tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜Š
