Went to decathlon today in an attempt to save some money on running gear... maybe half successful, I bagged some bargains, but bought much more than I would have in a regular running store, so the bank account got hammered regardless.
Now I have my ninja runner gear almost completed... black hat, long sleeve top, running trousers (who knew?) socks, and all black shoes... need to acquire a black buff and I’m all set!

I got some the autumn before last and they still have their tags on in my wardrobe... I’m yet to run in anything but shorts! These claim to keep me cooler in the summer, so maybe they’ll be good for the tail end of winter.
I've entered 2 10k races, also doing 5.3 mile leg if balfast marathon and also running 2 3k runs part of a duathlon race. Hopefully this will keep me busy. Would you suggest Nike running or just work on how I feel. Nike seems to put alot sprints in
It does... and they’re not all they seem! I thought 11x200m was all sprints, but reading some coach Bennett tweets I see the way to run them is gradually increasing the pace, so that last one is the only one that gets 100%, and it’s so much fun to complete the session by really kicking its ass! I look at some of the speed sessions now as how I’d run a 10k, nice gentle start, into happy pace and then push myself.
Nice to read that you’re gonna still be busy after closing out your February mission... and maybe it’s adding a little too much speed work in as it’s preparing you for one event. What I’d look to do is replace some of the speed sessions with either a tempo or recovery run of the same total length... we are not chasing records here, we’re competing events and having fun out there. The only time I’d have to do them all as it read was if I really really wanted a PB over a given distance on a given day... and I can’t see that ever being my motivation to run.
I'm the complete opposite! Anyone who says they didn't see me is a total liar 🤣 a few weeks ago I was told I was brighter than the sun (and it was a sunny day!) 👍🏻🤣
Hmmm... don’t tend to run in the dark, but recently I’ve been thinking of setting an alarm for 3, getting a nice long run in and then hitting that bed for a duvet day. If I’m thinking about it, it means it will be happening, so you’re right.
Not sure about the trousers... can’t wait to find out tomorrow though.
Seems that in the men’s aisle there’s only black for the bottom half... when shopping with the daughter I do get a little envy in her aisle... it’s time for some company to understand that times have changed and we guys need some ridiculously loud options.
Before decathlon I was in Costco, wondering how salmon could swim after seeing the size of the fish balls... anything on the bottom half needs to be loose 🤣
Used to love watching that contest as a kid and on my last trip to the in laws I saw one of the qualifiers for it as dad is a fan... I think if anything I found it more amazing than I did as a child. Back then it was awesome they could pull a truck, and now I know that I can’t it’s even more impressive.
Are you doing a parkrun when you are in Stockport? There are a few of us here who regularly get together - some forum members and some other friends and partners. You are welcome to join us.
Thank you. Where exactly are you? My geography of Stockport is sketchy. My son lives in Heaton Moor. We're actually coming up to see the Stereophonics on 13th March.
Bought some of their £10 running shoes with the intention that they’d be recovery wear after a run... but they actually do really well on tarmac (useless on any kind of trail) even when wet... so now I’m thinking I could buy one of every shoe they do for the price of some next%
I bought some of their trail shoes on sale at the beginning of last summer and have worn them for running and walking the dog. The only drawback is they are really heavy when wet.
The More Miles trail shoes (£25) I bought to see me through the early spring of 2019, are still going strong and are actually less slippy on paths and chalk than my really expensive Solomons but just as grippy in mud.
Sadly the top I wanted only came in black or white... and white isn’t my colour on so many levels! I do tend to buy black stuff as I don’t have to think when I’m getting dressed for the day... I do own one very loud green dress shirt, but only bought that for a funeral!
I haven’t been on a night run yet, the closest I get is a short run at sunset when I’ve had a busy day... and I get about 30 minutes before the light goes completely. I always run these in the park. I do feel for all you normal folk who don’t work from home and have the ability to run pretty much any time.
🤣🤣 dont go out at night you'll get knocked down. Mind you if you go out on a sunny day you may be freaking someone out as a shadow without a body. Happy running
Yeah... it’s not a money saving store... but I do end up with more kit and you can never have too much kit. Of course I had to get the wife some waterproof faux fur lined ankle boots to justify how much money I was “saving”
I absolutely love the black running trousers I got from Decathlon for wearing through the winter! They're so comfortable and light and just the right amount of warmth for me. The prices are great there, it is best avoided! hahaha!
I’ve gone for the run dry (summer) version as I’ve yet to run in anything but shorts, so the run warm ones may cause me issues. Of course if I run in these all year then I’ll be needing the warm version come the autumn no doubt. I like the fit, so can’t wait to test drive them later.
