So I finally did 10k on December 10th then it came to a bit of a halt with back problems. First tentative run in new year was 3.75k and it hurt! Indulgence at Christmas without the ability to torch calories by running leads rapidly to a loss of fitness.
I then did my first Parkrun since November last Saturday, hugely enjoyed it and got my second best 5k time. Another lunchtime 5k on Monday was the third fastest on a really cold day. So I figured I was in the mood for a longer run and a different route. I decided to take it easy and completed 8.5k at an average pace of 7:34/km.
I'd sort of aimed to do 10k by the end of January, but I'm not stressed about it. I could easily have gone on to do 10, but needed to pick up my wife coming back from London so didn't want to be late.
I've put on 4 pounds over the slobby and gluttinous break when running was out of the question, so not a total disaster.
The pic is me looking pleased with myself ( albeit a bit shiny!) On returning home. I'm very pleased with the red shirt which served as a base layer today. Did its job well, and I think will look good in warmer weather. It was ridiculously cheap at Decathlon, only £6.99. I really can't complain about that!
Oh and I got the best compliment ever from a young woman I do some volunteer work with. We were discussing dates of birth and I mentioned I was born in 1958. She said she couldn't believe I was born in 1958 because her dad was born in that year and he looked a lot older than me!! Her cheque is in the post!
