Morning people...

Late again and I have no idea why!

Yet again... many apologies!

Here I am though, and delighted to say that I am back outside again for my runs... I did my first run in 12 days, last Thursday... slower than a slow snail on a go slow... but it was great. I managed another, very short and interesting one yesterday... as I knew today I wanted to try for a longer run. ( HM at the end of March looming)!

I continue to be amazed when reading all of your run reports..so many, achievements, personal and public... and still, many of you are keeping to your goals. Remember too, as I am always saying, ( going on about) , that listening to our body is the key.

It is our best guide...no one knows that better than I currently. However much we want to achieve something, or how frustrated we feel, pushing too hard, oftem results in disaster!

Okay...

What is the Quest?

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.

We ask that you are a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this, is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and we wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:

★ To run three times a week

★ To slowly increase distance

★ To train for a specific race

★ To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine

You can choose what YOU want to do... whatever you feel you would benefit from... whatever you think you would enjoy... :)

The Quest is a completely personal challenge, so it's completely up to you!

I shall put up a new post each week and you just join , post your adventures and reply to the others...lets get this going!

I cannot wait to see some of your goals... !

So if you are already here on the Quest... fantastic... If you have not joined, then it is time you did... It's fun and... we can all keep each other going until the snow arrives in February :)

Love

Oldfloss xxx

PS

Could not find the photo this morning... this was last year's snow.... but I believe we may have some to come this year too!

Hi Floss. Very pleased to hear that you have manged a few runs this week. Hope you're back up to speed very soon.

I only managed three runs this week but the first was the first run of week 3 of an intervals programme I've challenged myself with and I did much better than I thought, and yesterday I ran my first 10k of the year, and without even trying the jog after work on Friday was at a pace that made me happy and I'm still keeping up the mileage for my 1000k for 2020.

Better than all that though I'm feeling really positive about my running again and despite this week at work being really challenging I'm feeling good 😊.

Happy running everyone.

Hi Oldfloss, good to hear you’ve returned to your running. Thanks for hosting again. I’ve had flu for last two weeks was unable to run but feeling recovered today. Will be running on a treadmill this afternoon (first time for many years) but only way I’ll get a run today. Have a great week 👍😊

Thanks Oldfloss, it was good to be running again. Took it easy, 4K in 30mins & really enjoyed it. Made a change not to be wet & muddy! Next run on Tuesday👍😊

Just super xx

Hi Floss, Glad you are back off the IC so quickly. I'm trundling along myself, increasing my long run by 0.5km per week, fitting in two 4 or 5km runs too, more or less. I am pleased that I am sticking to my strength exercises and my knee is feeling much, much better.

I am on an elimination diet to find a possible food intolerance and i am feeling the effects during my runs. And not in a good way. I am feeling quite low in energy. I should start reintroducing foods from Wednesday and taking my iron supplements so that'll help

I'm really enjoying volunteering at Park Run - we have lots of tiny kids who run/walk the 5km. Fab!

Keep jouncing everyone and enjoy it.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to

Oh dear... my son in law has been going through this and is on the reintroduction path too. Not funny and not great for an kind of energy sapping activities!

Just really take it gently and do listen to your body.... you are doing so well and you will get back on track soon.

Well done you on your trundles... and your volunteering too! x

Pleased to read your back outside Floss and of your plans.Wise words as always Floss.

Got my ears engaged Floss,7 Trots done, and a return to 10k, 25 Trots plan to 44k.

If it is possible, will only be at a 10min/km quickest for me.Dropped my sprint intervals as an insurance policy🤔.

Just out,trot,enjoy, get home safely.

What a joy to be on this forum supported and moderated by all you wonderful Admins.

The act of running is natural and simple enough but managing it is not🤔,listen to your body is a skill that needs to be worked on also.🤔

Btw you are the fastest snail I have seen over all distances upto 5k.Amazing you are.❤️

This snail is here to stay.

Taking notice of the voices in our head can be so hard to do... but, it is the only way to stay safe and to enjoy the runs...

We are back in Wales from March 1st.. so we will hopefully get a run in together at some point!

Stay strong, stay safe my friend x

So glad that you are starting to get out there again Oldfloss - what a great feeling that always is!

Trundling along well here. Running three times a week, although I am going to give my long run a miss today as I started with a cold yesterday and feel a bit "rubbish" today (listening to my body ✔️)! Will focus on my clams and bridges and maybe a short stint on the exercise bike instead. Two weeks until the London Winter run and a HM now entered at the beginning of May - so will be drawing up my plans for that soon! Happy running everyone and hope that anyone on the i/c is back out there soon.🙂

It cannot be explained to anyone else other than runners! Thank you!

Hope you feel back on form soon and well done for listening to what the body said!

Hi Oldfloss, great to hear that you are back to running outside again .

I’m pleased to say I had a good running week . A nice little 6k on Monday, which would have gone on a bit longer but I had to get back and changed for the hairdressers. I then tried several pairs of trainers bought online by running on the treadmill before my yogalates class on Tuesday. On Thursday I did pilates and then my first run in the dark to try out the chosen running shoes . Then my best time of the year (on garmin) at parkrun yesterday followed by putting 649 tokens back in order ready for next week with Oldgirlruns and Mr & Mrs Coddfish .

Dear OldFloss, my intrepid and amazing leader, I've been running 3 x a week, but my goal this week is to run every other day. I'm gradually increasing my weightlifting exercises so as to get back to my former status there. Thank you for "being there" through thick and thin!

Hi Floss and fellow Jouncers 😊

Chilly photo❄

Well done for your 10k run today Floss, it's good to see you off the IC so quickly.x

I saw my physio last Tuesday and was given a new set of exercises which are harder so need only be done every other day. She was very pleased with my progress and says I can keep up my daily strength/yoga routine. My next appointment is in 4 weeks though!🙄...this has brought home how slow recovery from this foot injury is.

Enjoying doing all the indoor exercising and been out for a few longish walks, although my foot doesn't like it.

So meeting my goals yes. Some S and F everyday and sticking to dry January.

No obvious tummy toning yet, despite all those crunches!😆

Happy Jouncing all, let's make it a good finish to this Quest!

😊xxx

I think it is tricky to time the quests quite 'right' because the month might start in the middle of the week. So I am not at all surprised and you're here and we're here so we're all good.

I'm feeling a bit happier with the way this week has gone: 142 active minutes, some yoga (so my S&F in the bag two) and best of all two runs and a swim.

Both runs without Google. Interesting realisation that my recent extreme slowness would now appear to have had nothing to do with towing an unsighted animal behind me as I was no quicker, not even on a hard surface. Also a reminder of how much more I like a nice boggy spot to slosh through, even if it does make my laces hard to find in the peat when I get home. Enjoyed the second run far more because of the surface. I had intended to try to take G but she preferred to stay on the bed.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to GoogleMe

I am so pleased that you are feeling happier with how the exercise is going...what you have got into the week is very positive!

I laughed when I read the bit about slowness... this running does give us some interesting things to think about and we find out so much, about ourselves. I never thought I would be a lover of hills...!

Flat is, I feel so hard... I have to practice on it.

Sloshing through boggy spots...just perfect, you simply cannot explain to anyone, the joys... maybe you need fluorescent laces...?

Maybe G had the right idea but what fun you had...I am so glad!

So pleased to hear you've been able to get out and run and a 10k today... onwards and upwards hopefully! So I've run twice this week, 5k on tuesday night and my interval session on Friday, in a quite sadistic way I'm starting to enjoy them, and its a good way to notice you're getting fitter! No parkrun for me this week as I was away with my mum for the weekend for her birthday which was lovely 😊 Keeping up with the yoga, just done session 12 this evening, and I've recommended them to my mum too so looking forward to seeing how she likes them. Thanks for the continued support and interest

You are doing so, so well... staying on target and clearly enjoying it too . The yoga is proving useful to so many folk... I have used it as part of my exercise regime for many, many years.

Your runs are proving interesting too and Intervals are such a great way to move on. I found that out yesterday!

Well done you....keep posting your progress please:)

So tomorrow or Wednesday will be a new week. I just love that I now have day choices when to run but seem to stick to the same days. I like structure and a good routine🤣🤣

Welcome back to outside running, Oldfloss! Very pleased for you.

I got back to running this week after week 3 demanded rest instead, and it was brilliant. Managed 3 runs as planned.

I had a brilliant time in the rain yesterday- it's so cooling!-so ended up being out for an extra K, which was a nice boost. I also had a great time on the forum, with lots of kind support when I felt self-conscious. A good week all in 😊

Hello Oldfloss. Last week was just great got three runs in and am really enjoying my strength exercises, planks are now my favourite (I know?!! What?!!) Planning on doing the same again this week, a longer run on Wednesday and then parkrun on Saturday. Only negative is out of my control and thats our blimmin winds! Hard work out there today, more of a joust than a jounce. 🙂

People who know me of old probably realise that having stuck to C25K successfully, then eventually gettingmy B10K graduate badge I have been happy to just run about 5K three times a week and have pretty much stuck to that unless there was a really good reason not to (icy pavements excepted, weather is not a good reason :) )

So towards the end of last year I built myself up to 10K again and decided to try and run a 10K once a month (so that I am ready in case I ever decide to run an emergency 10K race!)

I also set myself a goal to try to run 750k over the year, no particular reason.

And parkrun - everybody knows that I am well and truly hooked, even holidays tend to be planned around them wherever possible.

So today I set off for my run and did a bit of exploring. I found some nice new roads with decent pavements rather than some of the cracked and lumpy ones in my other routes, so I will be using those more often.

I was enjoying myself so much that I ran nearly 5K to reach the halfway point of one of my 5-6k circuits. I carried on without much deviation until I decided to pop into the library to use the loo and send a text home to say where I was as I was clearly going to be out longer than expected.

I then carried on, more or less straight home, with a little bit of extra as I reached the village, so that I could get to 10.5K (a longest distance record for me)

Stopping off at the greengrocers to buy (and eat) some grapes plus tomatoes and potatoes, before my cool down walk home.

So that's my January 10K ticked off and a total of 76K for the month, with one more run to go.

A good start to the year.

Hi OldFloss

As my aim for the week was to do nothing between my hockey matches on the two Saturdays, I achieved it reasonably easily, though I had to fight off the temptation to try a jogette on Thursday. But I resisted successfully :-) and my achilles is thankful.

I'll probably be trying something marginally challenging this week before setting new targets for the February Flounce. Or maybe a long slow if the weather's half decent ….

Glad to see you're back on it - running and rambling both!

So pleased you're off the IC Oldfloss .

Well I've now completed 3 runs per week for 3 weeks on the trot (excuse the pun), and it's all thanks to this quest! I very nearly didn't go yesterday. Yes it was cold, and raining, but mainly it was me being lazy. But I had promised you all that I would run, so I did!

I took the dog with me and he was surprisingly good, although it's slightly embarrassing that while I ran he was still walking - just goes to show you do not have the monopoly on being a snail!

So here's to next week!

Hi Oldfloss

Once again, thanks for posting and good to hear your progress. Congratulations on the run and best wishes for the HM preparation.

Nearly at the end of the Jounce and after a difficult week I'm glad to be roughly on track. The three runs a week target was sort of kept - performance has ebbed a bit (possibly a bit under the weather) so one run got split over two days, and I had to slow to a walk in Parkrun after 4.5k because of internal problems. But keeping going is the good thing. A worrying chat with the consultant at hospital was distracting - but it also makes me a bit more determined to do the positive stuff. So, Saturday night featured a bit of impromptu Am-Dram (nothing to do with this forum I know but it was great fun) and last night went to a ballroom dancing lesson (v good for core strength and flexibility). Club run night is tonight and looking forward to that and, in the longer term, continuing the consolidation of C25K.

Good to be back on track, and hopefully the news you had is not too worrying. You seem to have your mind set in hand...and using the runs, and other exercises and every other activities are all going to be beneficial !

Made it to 8k (did a “real” post to honour my new socks), so feeling ok about January. Won’t get back to 10k this month but should make it in February. Doing some S&F every day - but more can be added! So I’m reasonably pleased with progress and have a forward plan.

Glad to see you back, Oldfloss. And all the best to the languishing IC occupants. At least the days are getting longer... 😊
