No don’t get me wrong I really love this much maligned vegetable, I mean whats not to love about this very cute, gorgeous tasting little vegetable? They are so versatile and yummy stir fried, sauteed with crispy bacon, bit of creme fraiche, flaked almonds etc Mmmmmm yum! Oops! I digress forgot I’m on the Bridge to 10k site. My 10k race is in 3 weeks starting at 8.30am, the 6.5km race where you are encouraged to wear fruit or veg costumes, (Guinness World Record Attempt), starts at 9.15am. I’m having dreams (bad) about being overtaken by runner beans thanks Dexy5 for that image 😂 and pumpkins and being clapped in at the finish line by them. In fact I’m worried that I’ll be so slow they’ll all have time to make a friggin frittata. So I created a new Spotify playlist for myself (2 hours long, just in case!) Look out fruit and veg! Gonna boogie to the finish now.

Went to parkrun today, no PB, only seconds off again same as last week but each week feels easier and I need less recovery time afterwards these days, probably down to tackling hills on my runs now. Tuesday I went for a walk in search of a track at Rangituhi/Colonial Knob (ooh yukky name lets stick with the much lovelier Maori Rangituhi) where I could run instead of the pavements I’m running on now (sore hips uh uh!) and was trotting up a very narrow path when 2 mountain bikers hurtled round a blind corner, don’t know who got the biggest fright. After searching for a walking only track (why didn’t I bring the map?) and just climbing up and more up, gave in and took a photo halfway down my descent, breathe Lexi breathe. Photo included. Almost at the bottom and a runner flew past me she was fearless down that gravel slope, really inspired me to try again next week as there has to be a way up right? Happy Saturday running to you all and for those still on the IC keep going. You will be back. Take care Xx🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

PS note to self: more practice needed for parkrun photo try for a bigger smile and flying feet next time.

Lovely post and pics lexi.

You could add Hey Mr Tangerine Man to your playlist , or Ain't No Sprout......

Give me a day, I could come up with 2 hours worth.🍊😂🍊

😂😂 I’m liking those suggestions Jell6.

And there was an artist called pre-fab sprout ( or something similar) 😂😂

lexi6Graduate10 in reply toDexy5

Just looked them up. Who knew? They had nine albums that made the top 40, very New Wave and the band all so pretty.

Looks like a great Parkrun.

As for sprouts, another good reason for a dislike button on the forum.

😂😂 I feel for Sprouts 🙁 they get a bad rap. Now what about kale? Looks and tastes like a kitchen scourer.

It is a lovely parkrun, very sheltered from our strong Wellington winds, just need a decent cafe for breakfast afterwards.

Great post, thanks for sharing. Needs a lot of trust to fly down gravel slopes. As for veg overtaking you - just cheer them on and enjoy the costumes. Happy running

You’re absolutely right GTB, think they’re amazing to take on a run dressed up. Last time I dressed up in costume was as a cupcake in mothers item at kids annual dancing show (years ago) to Morecambe and Wise’s Bring me Sunshine. It was only 5 minutes long but keeping that candle on my head was a real challenge, couldn’t even contemplate a downhill gravel run.

Good post and a lovely photo from you, such cool leggings, if Brussels Sprouts help you with your running, all good and well, I love the bit about being overtaken by "runner beans", I am sure you will be able to run that 10K in less than 2 hours. I am glad that you enjoyed your parkrun yesterday - now Sunday in New Zealand - on Saturday morning I ran 4K, I will be back at parkrun in February.

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10 in reply toAlMorr

Thanks Alan my leggings make me smile, they’re a bit of fun. I hope to do the race in less than 2 hours, but am going to enjoy the atmosphere and have a few giggles along the way. You’ve started juju’s 10k plan again, so parkrun will fit in perfectly with your training eh?

Regarding leggings, Flick will be getting a little envious of you, I think you are beating her in the fancy leggings league department 😊

😂😂 Doesn’t Flick have some fabulous leggings Alan? I really have her to thank for my own little collection. ☺️

One foot is flying! 🤣 Oh yes how lovely to have flying feet and a big smile. I have never had a photo of me like that. All the very best for your three weeks leading up to your 10km race. 😊🏃🏻‍♀️

Thats true, I do have one flying foot, better than none at all. Thanks over61 I’m looking forward to the race and hopefully a calm, sunny day on the day. 🙂

Lovely post Lexi, and what super photos. You really do look great in the action pic, relaxed and running smoothly... plenty of people behind you too😉 and it looks like you are going uphill😅

Good luck with your 10k race, it sounds like it will be a fun event with the speedier fruit and veggies finishing alongside you all. Enjoy it!

Take care on those trails, do watch your footing though.

Love your leggings😍

😊xxx

Thanks BBr, I’m definitely feeling that I’m running better, all the strength exercises I’m doing are really helping and planks, “hundreds” and bridges especially are really helping with my posture. Our parkrun is a slope all the way up to the halfway point, so its downhill all the way home whee!

Can’t wait for the race now, have bought myself some new leggings to wear, so maybe I should keep away from the trails until after the race, so I get to wear them. 🙂 🏃‍♀️Xx

Boogie on down! Great action shot there Lexi. And sunshine. Lovely. You're doing so well x

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10 in reply toBaddieThePirate

Thanks Baddie, it was lovely yesterday, blowing a gale as usual but luckily its very sheltered at parkrun with all the trees. Hope race day isn’t too windy, but running round Welly’s bays it can’t be avoided. Going to have fun either way 🙂 xx

Fab pics, and I love your leggings!! So are you going as a Brussels sprout for that run?? It sounds fab, and your play list will get you through 😎

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10 in reply toju-ju-

Thanks juju, I love them too, they’re really fun. I’d love to dress up as a sprout but don’t think I could get round the course 😂 I applaud those that do dress up I have bought myself some gorgeous new leggings to compensate though. 🙂

Lovely post! I enjoyed that. I love sprouts too. You forgot sprout tacos. With peanut sauce of course. Sublime grub! Maybe not before a run though.

Your route looks fabulous! Very inspiring.

We had them in the US. Sprouts were on the menu everywhere while we were there. It was all about seasonal produce 🙂. I made the dish when I got back Flipping yummy 😋.

They really do sound delicious, when our sprouts season starts again in May I’m going to make those. Mmmmm! 😀

Lovely post and lovely pics Lexi and very upbeat sounding. With the other runners and lots of lovely fruit and veg, you’ll do brilliantly on your 10k x

lexi6Graduate10 in reply toSandie1961

Thanks Sandi. I’m looking forward to it and all the photo opportunities of the fruit and veg medley on the day. I thought I might go for a drive before the race and take some photos of the route. Its such a beautiful harbour and my new phone has a panorama option I’m dying to try out. Not far until your HM now. You’ll be fab. X

Lovely pics and such beautiful views from that hill (or knob). It does sound like you are back with a vengeance lexi6. Have a lovely time in the fruit and veg race, whatever you go as. 🥑🍅🍆🥕🍒🍋🍌🧅🧄🍎

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10

Thanks Dexy, can’t believe it’s called Colonial Knob. School goes back tomorrow after the summer holidays, so Rangituhi will be a lot quieter, going to tackle the hill to the summit this week as I believe the views from the top are spectacular. Think I’ll give the costume wearing a miss, I’ve bought some very colourful leggings instead 😀

Oh you are amazing and the photos are lovely, didn’t laugh at the mountain bikes because been in similar situation with very reactive dog panicking at the end of a lead,

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10 in reply toSueAppleRun

Thanks WillowandSola I knew there were shared biking and walking tracks, but golly it was still a shock when we met head on, just so unexpected. I can see why they ban dogs from all the tracks, our two would have keeled over with fright I think and then given a brave growl and bark when the bikers had long gone. 😀

Great post! Hope you crack that down hill! 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏔

lexi6 profile image
lexi6Graduate10 in reply toWindoze

Thanks Windoze my daughter loathes them and blames me for “making” her eat them as a child, although I still remember my loathing of cabbage, which my dear mum used to boil till it expired, so perhaps I can sympathise. 🤢

Upwards and then downwards 🏃‍♀️
