First Alert on my New Watch 😊

Husband has bought me a new (second hand) GPS watch - it’s a Garmin 230. He thought it was a 235, but we’ll forgive him for that, even though I had started thinking that Heart Rate training might be something I would like to explore...

Anyway, we fetched it this afternoon and I’m just sitting here setting everything up and it starts buzzing to tell me I ‘have mail’, so obviously it had to be an alert for a post in here. 🤗

I’m not sure that I’ll ever love it as much as my FR25, which I fell for as soon as I put it on my wrist, but I am looking forward to playing with some of the swankier features it has - notifications will be getting turned off very soon though. Unless... does anyone know if I can tell it to notify me for only text messages and not everything?

Does this message create an alert??

Maddee_6333 profile image
Maddee_6333Graduate10 in reply toCouchpotato2

No, because I wouldn’t get an email when you left it, just a notification to my phone screen

Probably just as well otherwise i would abuse it!

Can't help with alerts I'm afraid, as I have an old FR 10! Looks very smart though!🙂

Almost a bit too smart for me 😃

Yes regarding the notifications but you may find it's easier to do that via Garmin Connect on your smartphone?

Thanks.

If you pair it with a chest strap HR monitor it will be better than the 235.

So someone has said, elsewhere. Will have to decide if that’s definitely the way I want to go, and then start saving up.

Blimey, I’ve got the 220 and don’t even know if mine has this function 🤔

Then again, not sure I’d be safe having that one......sorry can’t help.

It was one of the first things I turned off 🤣

Turn it all off. All you need is pace, distance and time. I have never used Heart rate Zones for training. I have all alerts turned off. Like you, I had a Garmin Forerunner 15 which I loved. I upgraded to a Forerunner 35 as it was smaller, had Heart Rate Monitor and linked via Bluetooth to Garmin Connect on my phone. The size is great and I now wear it as an everyday watch, and the connectivity via Bluetooth is great. But I don’t really bother with heart rate. I don’t want to see text messages or any other notifications on my watch. It’s bad enough that they are on my phone.

This! So much this with regard to notifications.

It’s the 35 that I’ve been wanting, though looking at a picture of it in here the other day, I thought it looked huge.

Your new watch is cool. It’s a big step up from the 35 even. It’s really nice. As we say in Ireland, Well may you wear.

I really just look at pace, distance and time. It’s lovely to have Bluetooth connection to my phone. But I underuse the functionality on my watch. The running is most important, we don’t need a watch for that, but it’s nice to have.

I really like the "smart notifications" on my 235 (which looks very similar to the 230 in your photo). In the past I would miss phone calls because I did not hear the phone ringing. Now when I get a phone call I get a notification on the watch, so I don't miss calls anymore.

They’re basically the same watch only the 235 doesn’t have the Heart Rate monitor.

I don’t generally want to answer phone calls when I’m running, I’d rather concentrate on the trail.

Yep - I don't answer phone calls when I'm running. But the watch never comes off my wrist, except for a once a week charging session, and I like being able to see notifications for texts etc just by glancing at my wrist rather than having to get my phone out.

I'm exactly the same. My mobile is usually on silence and I set up garmin to notify me about text messages and phone calls but turneff off emails and whats app, etc.

My phone is silent apart from alerts from text messages - and I only keep those on because I have three grandsprockets that I provide child care for.

I only Bluetooth mine when I'm syncing it... As don't want it going off all the time.

Watch looks the same as 235.

Enjoy it!!! 👍👍👍

Before I found where to turn the notifications off the alerts were SO loud 😞

Exactly the same watch only without the heart rate monitor.

Ahhh OK. Great watch then. Tbh I don't think the ♥ rate is that accurate, but I haven't adjusted any settings or anything... Have fun

You chould be able to change setting and choose which notifications you get and if you get them during activities or not.
