First venture out alone on crutches

I was supposed to be walking to the bus station, catching the bus to Torrington , to be met by my friend who was gonna take me to her place for the day. The plan was we relaxed in the sun and fed and played with her alpacas and I got to see this years babies.

However she had double booked so we have postponed that idea. And I decided to walk into town. I’d realised that if I went in school hours I could take the shortcut through the school which is a lot flatter than all the other routes from here. So I texted another friend, with a small baby, and we arranged to meet for a coffee. Off I went, popped into Greggs for my free salad ( download the App you get loads of freebies including a cake treat for your birthday!!), had a quick look in Primark and picked up another pair of running leggings ( well I’ll need them soon😉) and then met her in Cafe Nero for coffee. I needed the rest by then but what I didn’t need was her laughing uproariously at my “ cripple shoe” as she so nonPcly called it. Not my Air boot on my bad leg!!! The other shoe, as I had purchased for myself a “ leveller sole” which makes your ordinary shoe the same height as your “ Roboboot” so you are not so lopsided when walking. It does make a helluva difference to the achiness of my back and hip but she thought it was hilarious. I have attached the pic for you to see. I didn’t think it was THAT funny!! 😥

So for anyone who is on crutches and Moonboot for any length of time I would highly recommend it. Bit expensive but much more comfortable. I also put a pic of my fav alpacas Buddy, the grey and white and Jensen the white one too even though I didn’t get to see them today.

The one downside to today was my hands are absolutely killing me!!Acheing like hell!!!

Glad you are out and about a bit.

My ex was in a Star Wars stormtrooper boot twice - broken ankle then a few years later ankle fusion. That would’ve made so much difference.

(She hated Star Wars.)

Yeah I said I felt like a stormtrooper when I first saw it 🤣🤣

I resisted the urge to say “glad she didn’t know about the leveller” because that’s just cruel and I’m better than that 😳😇

Great to hear you got out and ‘walked’. Well done for doing it on your own too. 😊

Good on you though for staying active. It all helps to getting your fitness back when running. 🙌🏼🙌🏼

glad you're getting the hang of the footwear. must be v frustrating. have you got any knitting on the go yet? I've been googling sock wool - I feel a pair of self-striping snugglies coming on...

Ohh sock wool!!! I have lots in my stash but I am finishing a boring black shawl, for my alpaca owning friend for her wedding. She has a gorgeous deep wine coloured vintage dress and it was originally going to be a summer wedding but her fiancé is ill and they have postponed until autumn, so she wanted something just to slip round her shoulders if it gets chilly.

I went off socks after knitting several boring black and brown pairs 🤮but I have lots of baby cardigans to do for my great great niece ( yeah I know I don’t look old enough 🤣🤣🤣)

I've got some plain black sock wool (zzzzzz) but I get bored easily so the self-striping is good to keep the attention span. I'm sure your friend will love the shawl. Be sure to post a picture of the baby alpacas when you get to meet them!

Sounds like an energetic day. And that leveller shoe seems like a great idea. I’ve never had to use crutches, but would wearing fingerless leather gym gloves help your hands grip more easily and hopefully not get them as achy?

Oooh that’s funny two of you suggested the same. I have some in the cupboard and I’ll try them. Thanks for the suggestion 😁

I just know I find I have to hang onto weights and bars less when I use them at the gym. Especially if my hands are sweating a bit in the heat. I hope they help. ❤️

What a good idea - I didn’t know that they existed. - I love the daisies too! How about cycling half finger gloves to protect your hands when you are doing ambitious crutch distances? The palms are padded (usually to protect cyclists from getting blisters from handle bars) and the summer weight ones well ventilated- not too hot. Good luck, mend soon. 😃

You're such a trooper, making the most out of your long stint on the IC. Nothing like alpaca cuties, gal-pal time and some laughs to make the most of a crappy situation. Kudos to you for going out for a day with crutches. A difficult feat indeed!

Thanks. I smothered my shoulders, neck and hands in Voltarol ointment when I went to bed and feel fine today. Bit tired but I’ve had a lazy day today. Just had electrician here for two hours fitting a timer that will pull the wattage from the solar panels directly into my new immersion tank. Shouldn’t pay for hot water through summer and only part in winter. 😁👍
