Just noticed for the very first time I stayed out of heart rate zone 5 and my vo2 max jumped 2 points so I'm nearly in the excellent zone. All thanks to my flatter parkrun route . Amazing πŸŽ…

Which app is that?

Buddy34 profile image

Its from my garmin watch on the Garmin connect app 😊

I’m waiting for my VO2 max to go up in my Fitbit app, my resting heart rate, running heart rate and time asleep have all improved significantly since I started C25K. Amazing stuff!

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10β€’ in reply toRigpig

The vo2 max went up on my last parkrun then on my Monday run out in the streets in my area lots of inclines and some hills it went back down .

Excellent work you are doing great. Decided I just naturally have a high HR when active and passed it to daughter and baby bump. She was monitored for 30min last week. Every time bump moved its HR went high - just like granny . Pleased to say all 3 of us have great recover time to low HR πŸ˜‰ I love the way elevation charts grade the height to make it look like we are running mountains

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10β€’ in reply toGrannyhugs

Yes that chart looks like the Swiss Alps, I monitor my HR with Mapmyrun it's zero all the time, I think I would need to get a Garmon Connect app.

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10β€’ in reply toAlMorr

Don't quite understand where the hills come in AlMorr as you know the parkrun is flat

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10β€’ in reply toBuddy34

Good afternoon Buddy34, I have just come back from a 11.80 kilometers walk, about halfway to Airdrie and back, I had Mapmywalk app with me, 16,678 steps and burned 696 calories, no I didn't mean the parkrun course was hilly, it was the graph that looks like β›°. mountains😊

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10β€’ in reply toAlMorr

That's a long walk AlMorr hope you enjoyed it . Weather's not bad today πŸŽ…

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10β€’ in reply toBuddy34

Yes I did enjoy my walk this morning as I enjoyed parkrun yesterday, interesting the calories I burnt today compared to recent 5K runs, almost 700 calories for a near 12K walk, most 5Ks I have ran are less than 400 calories, although I burnt 759 calories on a recent 10K RUN.

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10β€’ in reply toGrannyhugs

I agree some of just have a high HR when running as all of mine are normally. Also my resting heart rate has been as low as 52. When is the baby due now πŸ‘Ά

8 weeks, beginning to feel real, I guess as I posted as grannytobe at the start of august you've all been with me through this long exciting time πŸ˜€

Well done Buddy34 that’s excellent progress. Think I need to get myself a Garmin & start recording my running & fitness!

Great stuff for your fitness levels Buddy 34! Excellent !!

Thanks for showing your run profile, that is really interesting(and depressing). It confirms that age is the issue for me☹️. My zone 5 is >137. Philosophy of "If I feel ok I am" will have to do.....or I could fiddle with the heart rate settings 😎

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10β€’ in reply toBeachcomber66

I didn't know you could ' fiddle ' with anything 🀣. Obviously if I didn't have the watch I wouldn't know any of this stuff

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66Graduate10β€’ in reply toBuddy34

I think that you can reset the heart rate zones; they will be set at a default age related average I guess.

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10β€’ in reply toBeachcomber66

Yes I think I changed my top heart rate to the rate i have at a speedy parkrun. I can’t remember how I did it , but it would have been in settings somewhere. I’d have to walk a lot to stay within the 220 - age calculation .

Beachcomber66 profile image

Good idea. I will look at it over Christmas when my tech literate youngest is around ( just as a safety net you understand!). Have a wonderful Christmas Dexy5 and UTSπŸŽ„πŸ₯‚

Only way I can find is to lie about my date of birth in settings! Not doing that πŸ˜‡

Tasha99 profile image
Tasha99Graduate10β€’ in reply toBeachcomber66

I’m always going into zone 5. Is that bad? I never pay attention to heart rate zones but just had a look. Isn’t it good for your cardio fitness?

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10β€’ in reply toTasha99

If I didn't have the watch I would never know anyway. On yesterday's run I was in zone 5 nearly the whole time but that cause I was running hills and inclines I can't avoid them.

As long as the run feels good and we are fine it doesn't matter πŸŽ…πŸŽ…

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66Graduate10β€’ in reply toTasha99

Probably is, but VO2max dropping in the short term feels bad.

Tasha99 profile image
Tasha99Graduate10β€’ in reply toBeachcomber66

Mine is in constant decline at the moment. The garmin VO2 max is a poor measure. I can make mine go up by sprinting 1 mile flat around the block, yet it drops when I do 15 miles of hills across the moors. I’ve decided it’s very inaccurate. But if you want it to go up, sprint a mile πŸ‘πŸ½

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66Graduate10β€’ in reply toTasha99

It goes up if I do a β€œquick” 5k (nearly all in the red zone) or a long really slow run, limiting the red zone period . The key seems to be not being in the red zone for too long.

Jazzyrunner profile image
JazzyrunnerGraduate10β€’ in reply toBeachcomber66

You can change heart rate zones in the app - go to more, Garmin devices, your device, user settings. You can change your HR max and the zones or what they’re based on - I found HRR reserve the best. Have fun!

Beachcomber66 profile image
Beachcomber66Graduate10β€’ in reply toJazzyrunner

Done it!!! I know I regularly make 160 on the worst hills, so have made that the max. Zones look more sensible now. πŸ‘

Jazzyrunner profile image
JazzyrunnerGraduate10

That’s brilliant! So good to see it go up, but 2 points! I’m on that top of good zone, and can’t seem to get up to excellent 🀣

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10β€’ in reply toJazzyrunner

It sat at 37 for ages then 4 weeks ago at parkrun it went up to 38. The next run it went back down to 37 again. Then yesterday 39. Just likes to annoy us🀣

Jazzyrunner profile image
JazzyrunnerGraduate10β€’ in reply toBuddy34

I think you’re right! I’m on 36 and it seems to be saying that I’d go up to excellent if I get to 37 - I’m assuming it’s lower for me because I’m older πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

I must admit to looking at it after every run 🀣

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10β€’ in reply toJazzyrunner

Supposedly I need 39.7 to be excellent 😊

Jazzyrunner profile image
JazzyrunnerGraduate10β€’ in reply toBuddy34

Hehe I’ve finally found an advantage to ageing - it’s easier for me to be excellent! πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10β€’ in reply toJazzyrunner

I like the way it tells me I have the fitness age of an excellent 20 year old (I’m 61). I’m not sure I believe it though.

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10β€’ in reply toDexy5

And where do I find my fitness age 🀣

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10β€’ in reply toBuddy34

... more, Heath & performance, vo2 max. Fitness age is the last item. Yours is probably a 7 year old πŸ˜‚

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10β€’ in reply toDexy5

Obviously I see vo2 max buy can't see my fitness age 😊

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10β€’ in reply toBuddy34

Maybe mine is so unbelievable, it is highlighted. 🀣🀣It is a statement under the round chart.

Jazzyrunner profile image
JazzyrunnerGraduate10β€’ in reply toBuddy34

I don’t think all models show it. Mine’s a 45, is yours different?

Buddy34 profile image
Buddy34Graduate10β€’ in reply toJazzyrunner

I've a forerunner 35

Jazzyrunner profile image
JazzyrunnerGraduate10β€’ in reply toBuddy34

Just looked and I believe you should be able to see this, not on your watch, but on your Connect account. I can see it on the app, but if you can’t see it on the app, you could try signing in to your Garmin Connect account on the web?

Jazzyrunner profile image
JazzyrunnerGraduate10β€’ in reply toDexy5

No I’m not sure I believe it really - but nonetheless I’ll suspend my disbelief for this! πŸ˜‚
