After my 30 minute workout run this morning (only 4.2K, but some was up-hill) my Garmin said 64 hours recovery time. It did the same on Monday. And I feel great 20 minutes later with HR down to 60.
Am I missing something about recovery times?
My heart rate and stuff aren't unusual for me, and I would have expected 24 hours max. It thinks I was in Zone 5 for 77% - somehow I think it has me down wrong.
Any ideas? My plan is to ignore it, just like it's idea of a my resting HR.

Has there been a firmware update recently? On my (very, very slow) 12k run it gave me a PR for 1k and 1 mile, both faster than I’d been running and slower than my actual PRs. Garmin Connect never mentioned it.
I wonder if it has somehow reset its learning about your condition? Have a look on Garmin Connect at your VO2 Max graph - has that suddenly shifted wildly?
The heart rate zones on your watch must be set incorrectly. If I run even 10-15% in zone 5 then I am close to death! Are the zones set to automatic? I have they been manually set? My watch only gave 36hr recovery after my marathon.
I have absolutely no idea how to set anything manually. So everything is as it came out the box. And, apart from not measuring rest HR right, it was giving great results until the last update.
I’ve had this issue - maybe 3 times in the year I’ve had my Garmin. Looking at my HR trace, it appears to be down to a poor reading e.g. due to watch position etc. I know this is just a glitch with mine, and turn the watch off and on again before my next run and it has always worked fine the next time. Yours maybe a similar issue perhaps.
Mine has been doing strange things with VO2max and recovery too. I had a tricky run last week , but nothing worse than I’ve suffered before and it told me I needed 4 days recovery!! I’ve never had anything like that before, max 36 hours. Also, VO2 max has been drifting downwards and my RHR heading upwards from the 40s in the summer to the 60s now. I’m ignoring it tbh. Stupid watch.
I’m not even sure if my Forerunner 35 does recovery time. I keep meaning to turn off HR altogether, though, as I still don’t see Garmins as accurate. (I know it gives me values above and below the realms of possibility due to my pacemaker settings!) If you feel OK, then I’d really try not to worry too much about it. 😊❤️
I’ve already had to factory reset my Garmin once, upon advice from Garmin as it refused to sync. And it sometimes won’t sync one day, then will the next. So I see all the tech as pretty glitchy... It’s great when everything is working! 😊
I think there may be issues with the led light hrm apoach to do with finding the correct position and tightness on the wrist. Could also be an issue of a lack of /low subcutaneous blood flow in some peoples wrist fat? Chest strap hrms use electrical signal emitted by the heart so are more accurate than the bloodflow light sensor approach.
You don’t want to Factory reset unless you really have to, Oldfellow, as it removes all data from the watch itself (though you still keep any data already downloaded to Garmin Connect). If you need to, online searches sometimes call it a “hard reset” rather than the switching off “soft reset”.
Garmin do have a really good UK helpline who talked me through the process, and who seem to be up-to-date with known reported glitches if you ever want their advice.
Hope your runs are going well, whatever Garmin is telling you. 😊❤️
My new watch, only been out for one run had me running at 235 km/h! It is going to be hard to be convinced about its accuracy! Where do you find the zone information? Mine is a Forerunner 35.
