Parkrun number 5 - keeping up with my 9-year-old

A few weeks ago I posted about running parkrun with my 9-year-old.

Yesterday, he took another chunk off his PB running with me to 28.29. This is only just over a minute slower than my own PB! It now seems only a matter of weeks until i'm going to be eating his dust.

How lovely that he is getting quicker and great to run together

Don't forget that you have to keep him within arms length until he is 11.

Good luck with that if he speeds up much more :)

Last week I ran for a while chatting with a 9 year old on his first parkrun (his Dad was there as well)

He wanted to know all about the milestone t-shirts and we speculated about the colour for a 1000 run shirt when it is required (he decided on gold)

Anyway I saw them ahead of me yesterday, he finished about 3 minutes quicker than last week - I didn't try to keep up!

I console myself with the fact that if I can keep with him till he reaches 11, I will have seriously improved as a runner. Then, in the years following this, he can get the coffees in while he waits for his old man.

I was at a parkrun yesterday and I would swear that there was a 9 or 10 year old boy running himself who LAPPED me on the second round, perhaps he was with his dad but he could not go at the pace of his son. 😊

My 12 year old son always has to wait for me at the finish line. He zooms off and leaves me to plod round. I dream of one day getting to the finish line first! 😂

How brilliant. I love seeing the kids doing parkrun, especially the way some of them Jeff it with a combination of sprint and dragging of heels.
