Brrrr, now that was chilly....

Hello everyone...How are you all??? How are you all doing...and if you're one of my quirky questers I hope it's all going well for you despite this cold? Just wanted to let you know that I am still out, nothing really to report except that I am still enjoying the plan I'm on. On Monday I had the 'magic half mile' which went well...but with the walking breaks that are included in some of the runs it took me 41 mins which is slower than my actual 5k time...but like I said, there was some walking in there so maybe it is working. Immediately after that run I still had some left in the tank and I was quite a way from the carpark, I decided to do an interval workout which is quarter mile repeats, so I managed to cover another 2.73kms so I felt like I'd had a really good run out.

Todays run was a cadence drill run so short bursts of running at 150-200 steps per minute...that takes some doing!! My legs were absolutely freeeeeeezing and the wind was biting my cheeks. I warmed up for a couple more minutes before I ran just to make sure I was running on all cylinders!! I had gloves on and my very thin running jacket....for about 3 minutes!! I soon reach boiling point once I'm off! It was slippy in patches where the leaves had covered the tow path so I was a bit nervous of falling at one point because I know from running this route A LOT that the trees are pushing their roots up through the path like feet trying to trip me up and I couldn't see them so it a good job I know the path like the back of my hand! This run had me covering 3.45kms in 25 mins and again I had a bit more in the tank so ran another Km back to the car...there was a group of school children on a trip to the canal all talking about the locks and how they worked...and they all gave me a wave and a very loud 'HELLOOOOOO' which made me smile from ear to ear!! Bless them, they were all wrapped up and their little cheeks were pink!!

Anyway, I hope you're all having a great week, get some layers on, you can always peel them off...Happy running you lovely bunch

MC xxxx

Well done on staying upright but nooooo, not the layers for me. Proved that again this week when I donned my windproof cycling jacket... only because I'd not got out the week before and I could tell there were a lot of folk on Stanton Moor because of all the cars, and also because I knew I needed to allow Google some sniffing time so I'd be standing about a bit initially. The trouble is that rather than immediately being able to tell I am too hot, I just feel ill and find the run hard going... and sure enough... unzipping helped a bit but I'd really rather be a tad chilly. (Legs were fine. I still had a long skirt on, that doesn't seem to be a problem)

Anyway, from that you'll gather that I got my run in this week and hope to get a second in to make up for missing the week before. I have already caught up with my swims by going twice this week, and I've got 150 active minutes in the bag.

I've decided it is prudent to assume that I need to be doing a yoga practice daily for the rest of the month and picked up a bit. I still haven't done a yoga class as such although since the part point of that is to get value out of my paid subscription I can say I have done a lot of classes on the site over the past 7 days, but they have been meditation, talks and yoga nidra (so not strength and flexibility)

Good to hear from you that you enjoyed your cadence drill run along the canal bank, one of the highlights being waved by the school children shouting a big hello to you, which reminds me when I was out my 5K run last Saturday I was politely spoken to by a group of school boys on bikes who were walking up the only hill on that route, not all young people are rude to passing runners or cyclists.

That's nice AlMorr ...it's great when people talk to you. At one point on the canal this morning there was evidence that my friend, who lives on a barge, had been out and about foraging this morning and chopping wood for his fire and sure enough, when I ran up a slope near one of the locks, there was his barge moored up with smoke gushing out of the little chimney...and on the way back he was out cutting some more so I had a little chat with him, he told me he had returned for the winter having been round Liverpool and up to Goole...what a lovely way of life?!!

No wonder your legs were freezing if the wind was biting your cheeks 😳...I'd suggest you wear some thermal running tights as well as a jacket and gloves next time 😂

Sounds like you got some good runs in despite the conditions 👍

I'm hoping to get out tonight, though I find it's hard to have a decent pace when you're nervous about it being slippy...ah well, a runs a run regardless 🏃‍♀️

Sounds like great fun runs you've had. Lovely to mix distances and speeds. Be careful on the slippery surfaces. Happy running

Thankyou Grannyhugs ...the leaves are scarier than snow I think, they are like beauty and the beast...beautiful in the trees all golden and shiny and then they turn into scary beasts on the pavement!!! It is good to shake up our runs x

Cor, it was right parky this morning, wasn't it dear MC?! Well done on getting out! I am loving seeing your fancy training plans pan out – cadence drills, eh? Something I should be thinking about maybe? Hmmm.

I had a lovely quick 3k this morning. I swear by my Ronhill themal running tights, they are ace. Bought them last winter and I expect them to get my through another cold winter of running. I love running in the cold, it's so life affirming!

I am back up to 3 runs a week – a speedy 5k parkrun, an easy pace 5k that I can relax into, and a zippy 3k just to get the blood flowing! Knees seem to be holding up okay (and I should blinking well hope so, after all the strength training and cross training I have been flipping doing!) See my physio on Tuesday – I am hoping she will sign me off and give me the blessing to start building up distance again. I want to get back to 10k!

Happy running dearest Bevlar. 😘

Ooo, it was Sadie-runs ...I think you would enjoy some interval work, you don't cover as much distance but it gives you a real workout!! Might be just what you need Missy??? Fingers crossed you get the all clear from your physio...and then GRADUALLY you can work your way back up to the magic 10k...there will be a big cheer around here when you do!!! Happy, gentle running my lovely friend xxx

Sounds fab Mummycav! You are having a good week with all your plans :-)

Well done on staying upright on the tow path! Those hidden tree roots are buggers without the added challenge of slippery leaves.

I have my long run tonight on the Olympic Park - it's been a while so looking forward to it. Hopefully no leaf hazards await me :-)
