Magic plan week 2 done... here we go week 3

Hi all,

Yesterday I completed week 2 of Ju-Ju's Magic plan, I'm taking it very very slow for the long run, normal-slow for the 5k and then doing intervals for the shortest one. I feel really good about how it's going, I remember that for the last weeks of c25k, I had to constantly remind myself "come on, it's only 2 more minutes than last week" but now I'm not constantly battling with my mind (I do keep track of "come one, we are halfway there" or "just one more km, it should be less than 9 minutes now", but it only happens once or twice each run).

I'm also trying to schedule more strength workouts, I'm quite good with arms and core, but I always forget the legs :)

Anyway, as the week is done, I should treat myself, so I got a book from amazon "First Ladies of Running: 22 inspiring profiles of rebels, rule breakers, and visionaries who changed the sport forever" by Amby Burfoot. Someone had recommended another book by him "Run Forever" and I found this one while browsing amazon. It's not the best book ever, the stories are very short and, as some of the reviews in amazon say, he is very focused on American runners, but it was fun to read, and not so fun sometimes when you see how things have changed (and how much they needed to change!). It was an interesting read :)

Hope all of you are doing great with your plans and to all following the magic plan or starting next week, good luck!!!

Fantastic effort finishing week 2 on a happy note. Sounds like you have a great mix of runs there. Great effort with the strength work too. I've been doing some nhs runners exercises and Adrienne yoga for runners. Roll on week 3. I think slow is good, we are certainly putting in lots of minutes by running slow and hopefully less chance of injury. This time next week well be thinking about w4 then well be half way through sorry, getting a bit ahead of myself. Happy running

Well done to you, sounds as if you’re doing really well. And the strength training will really help with the running too.

I’ve not heard of that book but thanks for the name. You know you’ve got the running bug badly when you start reading books about running 🙄😂

I'm trying to control myself and only allow me a running book per week...

I didn't know there was going to be a group starting next week when I started the plan, but I will join the posts cheering for you each week!

Brilliant. You sound like you’re enjoying this. It seems remarkable to think “just one more km” is now achievable. 9 minutes of running at the start of C25K seemed impossible.

Slow is definitely the way to go. I just worry now that if I get to 10K it will take me so long for each run I won’t be able to fit it in 🤣🤣🤣

Bring on week 3!

That's why I had so many doubts about going for the time or distance version! I try to schedule the longest run the first, so if I don't have time that day I can reschedule, if I leave for the last run, something might come up :) but anyway, we are going to get to 10k! How was your week?

That’s exactly what I’ve been trying to do too to get the long one done first. Last week was okay but I was feeling the increased distance in my hips so I’ve been trying to do some additional strength and flex so we’ll see what this week brings. I’m heading out soon to try for the 7K but can’t say I’m feeling like it at the moment as it’s pouring with rain.

As you say, we are going to get to 10K - it might just take a while!
