Hi Runners... here we are again... and I am just about here, for the last few days of the Quest!

November beckons, and a new Quest too will be beginning!

So, so much going on in the running forums right now... lots of new Graduates and lots of goals being met...10K runs and races... folk heading onward to the HM forums and all hopefully having fun!

I am still, managing to run three times a week but still trying and failing, to get some longer runs in...I have a lot happening right now which is making things tricky..but... as long as I run, then I know the rest will evolve at some point!

I am heading towards my fourth runniversary and can hardly believe how far I have come!

There really is a blaze of glory around us right now, certainly where I live. My runs take a lot of finishing, as I spend a lot of time looking around at the wonderful sights around me:)

I hope your runs are as satisfying, wherever you are:)

So;

What is the Quest?

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.

We ask that you are a C25K Graduate before joining the Quest. The reason for this is that pre-graduation your week is very much structured according to the C25K programme, and we wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:

★ To run three times a week

★ To slowly increase distance

★ To train for a specific race

★ To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine

The Quest is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you!

Happy running and whenever and wherever, your running trail takes you, may it be in a blaze of glory :)

Lovely photo. Not sure what I pledged at start of month but I've run 3 times every week and done 40 to 60 min strength and flex every non run day. I've learnt to use my own s&f knowledge and stop using you tube videos which push me to pain risking injury. I've managed to slow down my running and enjoy the longer cool runs. Happy running everyone 🙆‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

I’ve been doing them for a couple of years - they predate me taking up running. Love them! 😀

My quest is to stick to roseabi ’s speed challenge and attempt to get my snail legs working harder. They love long and slow - now they need to get moving out of their comfort zone ...... arggghhh! 😩😩😩

I feel your pain...but, it is the long runs that build the speed... believe me! I love the long slow runs and now.my happy pace has gone from 7.35 per K to 6.35 per K!

Go you!!!!

Hello Oldfloss, loving the autumnal colours around us. My quest to train to achieve that 10 mile Great South Run was successful. So I will reduce long distance and now concentrate on speed for parkrun. I want to break 31 mins

Well done you! My speed challenge is over 5K too! x

My challenge is for 1k, but I’m hoping that will help the 5k!

Amazing views in your photo I think i would just sit and look

Our quest for this week is to run 3 times for half hour or a bit more and try out a promenade run where it will be lit up in the evenings ready for dark runs after work

My quest to extend towards 10k has got as far as 8k, which I’ll settle for this month. Life has been a bit more under control but not as steady as I’d like. Got the Strength & Flex into better shape, though, as that fits more easily into “bits” of time. At last, something in its favour, I guess. 🤣 Thanks to you Oldfloss, for the excellent activities for feet and lower limbs! 👏🏼👍👏🏼 Sucked me right into a routine....

Planning to keep going with the distance work & hope we now get some of that dry, bright weather we all love. 🍂🍁🌞 Should make it to 10k in November, all being well in Life. Then I will have to tackle the speed issue. Trouble with being a Tortoise is that as the distance gets longer, the time really stretches out - especially if you count in the warm up/down and stretching and shower and faffage factors. Can’t devote ALL day to my runs! 🤣🤣

Happy running, All. 🎉

Life really gets in the way...I am struggling too!

But... you are doing it and, I am glad you are finding the exercises useful too! It all helps! Just hang in there.. the 10K will come... and you will fit it into a day:)

Wonderful picture! It is cooler here in Michigan and we've had some frost so the bugs seem to be gone--yay!!! Even so, I missed running and/or walking two days this week, but thanks to this forum, I remain connected to the running community, which is important to me. My goal is to run every other day, do weightlifting 3 days/week, (which I did this week,) and walk 2 miles on off-running days. Guess I'd better drink my tea and get out there!

Brilliant... huge well done you.. and no bugs has got to be good! You stay with us... we all stray now and then but it is all waiting!

My October Quest was simply to deliver at the culmination of 8 months questing towards a decent Great South Run, and I was over the moon with the result. The Quest has been really helpful in making me develop a plan and stick to it, given the (self-imposed ;-) ) requirement to report back on successes :-) and failures :-( . So for the next few months I shall be using it to try and increase the distance I can run at the pace I would need to go sub-23 again at Parkrun (last achieved 4 years ago) - which means treadmill work, probably twice a month.

Onwards and upwards!!

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to UpTheStanley

Simply fabulous... you not only delivered, you did it in style! Really super!

I love Quest and it keeps us, as you say accountable!

You have done wonderfully in all areas of your running and I know you will find that sub 23 for 5K soon!

Onward and upward indeed!

Hi Floss and Questers,🖐 It's good to see you all doing so well and nice to read about your acheivements and goals and running fun...😊

Just back from my physio appointment, and feeling a bit glum. There is improvement overall, but last week my lower leg ached all of the time and the exercise I was given was a bit painful. 😐

My physio says the scar tissue around my Achilles tendon has flattened off quite nicely now, but I should go back a week on my exercise regime so that I'm strengthening rather than stressing my ankle. So the next appointment is in two weeks time, and he hopes one more after that should be enough... 😐💰

Quite frustrating this being on the IC...Best wishes to those on here with me and hope your recoveries go well.😚xxx

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to Bluebirdrunner

This is sad news... I am so sorry that you are still on that IC! Strengthening sounds good.. after I tore my Achilles ( years before I started running) it was those exercises which helped most!

You know that the runs will wait and you know that we all take you with us on our runs.. ( we did really well on that 5K yesterday didn't we :) )

Stay strong.. work on those exercises and some sitting upper body work too maybe ?

Huge hug my friend! x
