I’m beginning to think that Beachy Head is jinxed for me

Autumn 2017: I did the Beachy Head 10k with my friend’s dog, Brontë, after my daughter’s dog Taylor - who I’d done all the training with - was injured in the run up (no pun intended). My calves were agony after 8k as she was a much faster dog.

Spring 2018: A Half Marathon by a different organiser - I was a little under prepared (but not much). Again Taylor couldn’t do it either. I did it thoroughly dogless; it was FREEZING- we all got sleeted and snowed on. I came last, but hey I finished 😁 And in the evening I started throwing up, like the rest of my family had been doing the week before.

Autumn 2019: The race is a little over a week away. I am thoroughly prepared or the 10k. As is Merlin. Except he came into the kitchen to eat his dinner last night and left a trail of bloody footprints behind him because he’s cut one of his pads - I have no clue how, as it was fine after our walk in the afternoon. He’s probably not going to be healed in time to run with me 😢

Oh Maddee, so sorry to hear about Merlin! 😨! I hope he’s recovering ok. Well, if Merlin can’t come with you after all that training together, maybe it’s a tribute run that you can do for you both?!! And when you cross that finish line it will mean so much!! Maybe he can be there to see you coming? Wishing you an amazing run. 🤗❤️

It’s too early to tell, as it only happened last night, but he’s not licking it, so that’s good. I was at the vet with my other dog this morning, so showed her a picture of his foot and she winced and said, ‘that’s the worst place for that to happen’. 😕

He won’t be able to be there as I have no-one to take him. I am seriously thinking if I can ask to borrow Brontë again

Oh poor thing. 🤗 Maddee you can still do it! 💪🏽 And I’m sure you will. ❤️

I think it’s time to read the signs: the dogs dont want to do it! They’ve been trying to tell you. Joking aside I hope

Merlin gets better soon

🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

Thanks for the laugh, I needed that 👍 currently propping my chronically ill girl up on my lap waiting for a new medication to work so I can attempt to feed her again.

I think Merlin would love it over there, to be honest - lots of wide open space to run in and no pesky horses or sheep.

Glad to be of service. Maybe they don’t like races?? Anyway hope you are well soon xx

Oh dear poor Merlin, hope it’s a little cut and he heals quickly. Good luck for the run though

Oh no Maddee - poor Merlin. At least he’s not licking it, so perhaps it’s superficial and he’ll be ok to run. 🤞Pads are quite dramatic things to injure aren’t they - so much blood. 😩

Alas, I’m pretty sure it won’t be okay to run. It’s straight across a toe so walking on it opens it back up again 😕 I was at the vets about our other dog, and showed her a picture. She said it was in just about the worst place it could be 🤦‍♀️

So sorry to hear that, poor dog.

They do heal amazingly quickly though. Do you have any idea how deep it is ?

Hope your other dog takes the medicine easily and can be fed :(

Not hugely deep, just in a really awkward place 😕

Luckily her medicine is liquid so I can just syringe it - so much easier.

I don't believe in things being jinxed...but even I have to admit it's all sounding a bit jinxy! If that's even a word!?!

Poor Merlin, hope the walking wounded gets better more quickly than anticipated and proves us both wrong...you are owed a good Beachy Head running experience! 🤞🤞🤞

I don’t really believe in luck or jinxes either, but like you say, ‘jinxy’. 😳

I’m not holding my breath.

Oh dear! Poor Merlin, that sounds painful 😕. Will you try the event dogless?

Yes. I think I’ll have to, though I might be able to borrow Dani’s Bella (the insane Sprocker) or Brontë again.
