Well after just over 2 months on the IC I was finally signed off on Saturday and made it out (on the dreadmill) for a 20 minute canter last night for some intervals - Fast walking (1min) and 5k pace (3min) intervals. All seemed to work as it should, and no problems today (yet!). Managed to watch 20 minute of Netflix, which was a bonus!!
But the thought occurred to me - When I was running over the summer (before injury) everything was fitting around my running, so I always ran or did a workout. Now, with so long on the IC, I really struggled to find the 20 minutes to do it as I had adjusted back into 'sloth' mode, and everything seemed to be against me!!
Hoping this road back isn't going to be too bumpy!!

Yay and woo hoo! Glad to see you back, Mitch! You must be so relieved. Well done on rehabbing yourself properly and being patient. And don’t worry, I am sure you will get back to your old routine again soon! Maybe put time in your diary to run/exercise and treat it like a “proper” appointment that you would not dream of missing?
Yay! Glad you're back 🤗 Am sure once you get back to outdoor running and realise how good it makes you feel you'll prioritise running again. It's all too easy to slip back into our old ways! I've been a bit lazy with all this rain we've been having. Back out today though 👍
Cheers Sarah - hope it goes well, all the rain recently is horrible! I don’t mind if it rains when I’m out, but don’t want to go out if it rains!! Lol ☔️
Forever 🐌 like me don’t have that pressure - just levels of snailyness! 😂 - So currently I’m a sloth- snail aspiring to be a tortoise- snail! At some distant time I hope to resume my gambolling snail status! 😂
Welcome back LL!! Good to have you back too!! Sounds like the multi-tasking on the treadmill was a neat idea! It was a different approach and sounds fun too! 🤩 You did it! 😁 So, I’m sure you’ll be well and truly back on track in no time! 💥❤️
Thx Fab. Yes! Had a thought on way home that night, that some of a proper gym’s machines have screens so you can change channel etc. So I just put my iPad there instead! Managed to finish Ep 4 of Top Boy! 👍
Excellent start! Go easy. I thought all was going well and managed about 5 or 6 early C25K runs then bam! Sharp pain in foot from nowhere on the first step of the next run. Rested a week. Tried again yesterday, same problem. So I guess I rest now for more than a week, then try again! Very pesky. So, go easy. Warm up well and watch out for any niggles. Good luck. Oh, and as for finding time? if you're fit enough to run - get out there, for those of us who can't if for no other reason 😍
Cheers Linda - you haven’t been lucky with that foot have you!
Good advice, I’m taking it easy this week to ease back into it, then I’ll start bumping up the time & k’s next week.
I’ve started the 8 week 10k plan on strava (from Monday) so that should get me back into it and I’ll probably swap onto the HM plan after a month or so.
Good luck with the foot! Maybe some strapping around the foot itself? Does it hurt walking?
Your plan is very ambitious compared to mine. I managed runs from C25K w1,3,3,4 snd it went on w5! It does hurt to walk. Maybe strapping is a good idea. I'll look at that.
Just over 4 months. Make that 5 now! Crikey, it's a long time. Good luck, and if the 'time poor' gremlins start to win, give them a mouthful from me and get out there - just because you can 🙂
Great to be back. I am sure that as the enjoyment and improvements become evident, running will be reinforced and you will start setting goals. Then you will struggle to find time for the couch!
