So I have been feeling 'Bleh' for a week......hot, cold, head fuzzy, sore throat, croaky voice, NO voice etc etc. Still managed to go into work and talk all day, just! (a voice is rather essential when working with little ones!). No running for 7 days
So, do I or don't I run on Sunday? Dorchester Dash 10k which I have been looking forward to (well, not the hilly part) and preparing for, for weeks. A birthday run.
I do feel considerably better this evening but certainly not 100% and my voice is still very croaky. I know, I know......of course it is silly to participate in an event, in the rain most likely, when still recovering from a virus. BUT, I really want to run!
Sorry, I am waffling on a bit! We are off to Dorset tomorrow, visiting family both Saturday and Sunday so I suppose I will just have to wait till Sunday morning and decide then. Watch this space...….!

I’d be at the start line... with no expectations on myself to run it all. A virus will sap a lot of energy, so maybe it’ll prevent a full 10k run... but having looked forward to it and trained for it, I’d go and give it a go... a few walk breaks would then be expected, and I’d just be proud to get to the finish line.
The weather is a different issue, and that will require a decision on the day.
Hope you’re back to 100% and that you make the right choice on Sunday.
Thank you. Had rough night last night and can hardly talk this morning, weather also going to be bad - so looking more and more unlikely that I will run 😞
Have a nice time in Dorset skysue . Like Unfitnomore says go down to the race and see how you feel. Listen to your body and adapt accordingly . There is no problem pulling out or walking if it isn’t going well.
Personally I wouldn’t run in the rain if I was still suffering from a virus but only you know how you are coping .
I am a bit of a fair weather runner anyway, which will be put to the test this weekend
Thanks for your advice Dexy5. It definitely looks very wet on Sunday, so that might be the decider. Whether I manage to get a decent night's sleep will be a factor - last two nights have not been good 😞
Such a shame. See how you feel later today - but no point running if you don't feel fit and risk being ill for longer, imo. There will always be another 10k! Fingers crossed for you.🙂
Have a lovely birthday whatever you decide Sue, run if you feel up to it, but on the other hand a cosy day indoors might do you more good, especially if you have work on Monday.😚xxx
Weather has been awful all day here in Dorset and tomorrow morning is similar so definitely decided not to run 😕. Still feel rough anyway, I just jogged up the hotel stairs and was out of puff and my throat was burning so 10k would be very hard!
