I can’t resist, sorry guys. I don’t half post a lot on here, but I’m hoping you understand! 🙄 🤓
I loved my run this morning, I really did. I haven’t run Ashton Court since an ill-fated park vehicle interrupted run on a hot day back in the summer, where I was forced to walk twice to grab hold of the dog, resulting in me being unable to get going again on the hill. Believe me, you need to be in the zone to make it up. It threw me off my groove, and although I completed the run in the end, I was cross and have only been back there to walk since.
So today I thought my hill legs needed an outing. After all, they’re under orders to carry me round Lyme Park on Saturday. A PR with a higher difficulty rating than Ashton Court (500+ compared to 495 for AC) 😱
The weather was perfect. Grey and fairly cool. My legs didn’t tire anywhere near as much as in the past - although it’s obvious where the steepest part of the hill is! I’ve been 10 minutes plus on km 2 before!! My dog was able to run and snuffle unencumbered by park vehicles and I continued on past the PR turnaround to add an extra 2k to the run. It was amazing!
I laugh at this run as I get fake almost negative splits! The first km is always quicker than the second, but after the second one, it flattens out a little and ultimately goes downhill again! Hence “fake”!!
Loved it. A jolly toddle on Thursday, then Lyme Park, here we come! 🏃♀️🐕
Any more takers? There are quite a number of us meeting up if anyone else is interested (or bonkers! 😅)

Well done Cheeky. Great running. It’s fantastic when you have a great run and feel like your in the Zone. I did a lovely steady 10K yesterday and felt really comfortable and still managed a sub 1 hour time. Enjoy parkrun next weekend. I am looking forward to meeting you the following weekend in Eastville. I’m saving the first wearing of my milestone 50 T Shirt for that one.
Great run for you today Cheeky, great time as well, if that had been 10K you would have ran it in around the same time as I ran 10K last Wednesday, sub 70 minutes. Have a good run at Lyme parkrun next Saturday, I'll be running my 7th at Dunfermline parkrun. 😊 🏃
I doubt if I'll be able to get a PB at Dunfermline, there is a hill that slows me down a little, perhaps at best time for there, maybe 31 something, but not under 30.55 that I got two weeks ago at the more flatter Drumpelliier parkrun.. 😊
Brilliant cheeky, despite what you say about being downhill, I’m still very impressed with the pace of your last 3km. That is not snail pace. You’ll do well at Lyme Park , you’ve built up strength in those legs at Ashton Court.
Thanks Dexy, I do hope so! The first 800m are supposed to be the worst, but I’m taking comfort in the fact that AC’s hill is longer than that so I know I can (in theory) do it! 😩😅
Great run Cheeky. You’ll do brilliantly on Saturday. You’ve got hill legs unlike me so I am fully expecting to have to catch up with you on the occasional flat bits 🏃♀️🏃♀️
Hahaha! But I bet you’d still be quicker than me even if you walked! I’d be quicker if I walked, but I’m a stubborn one and insist on running (if you can call what I do on hills running!) 🐌🐌
Thanks so much Deals! I don’t half witter on, but I love running and can’t help telling anyone who’ll listen! My family have that perma-glazed expression. 🙄🙄
I’m super impressed at the thought of you doing a Park Run at Lyme Park Cheeky! Last time I was there I was walking and those hills were a nightmare! But that was pre C25K so who knows , I might be able to do it without puffing now! Enjoy Saturday!
I’m really looking forward to it OGR. I’ve been watching YouTube videos of the course, almost to the point that I know the route! 🤓 I’m preparing myself for those hills ..... I hope! 💪💪
Glad you were able to exorcise the demons of Ashton Court cheeky. That must be a really serious hill; grit your teeth and think"this must be doing me good" time! Hope the weather is a bit kinder for the weekend...but whatever, all will put into context with a good breakfast in great company.
I am thinking of having a period of posting restraint too; done quite a lot really and time to calm down a bit on the pursuit of PBs. Gentle 5k in the pouring rain today I feel! 😊
It is a tough hill BC, but the reward is fabulous - views over Bristol and the knowledge that there’s a lovely 2.5k of downhill to look forward to. 😀
I often wonder if I post too much. I fully intend to only post about landmark runs or VRB meetups (lots of those recently!), but I find myself wanting to share all my runs! I don’t, obviously, but I post about more than I should, I simply love it so much! 🙄🙄😅
Good luck with the PBs. You’ll smash them I know! 👍
I assume there were decent hills involved considering your pace changes 😁, well done on going back there and telling it who's boss! It's all looking rosy for Saturday 😊🏃♀️
Oh yes Run46, Ashton Court parkrun is 2.5k up, 2.5k down. It’s pretty steep in places and it makes the less steep bits seem like a reprieve even though they’re definitely still uphill! I love running it actually. It’s a great sense of achievement and it’s hard not to make the turn at PR without an inane grin! 😅
It’s such a lovely route BIT. I’ve only had the one bad run there, which luckily wasn’t during PR. It’s so hilly that one bad one is all it takes to put you off for a while! Still yesterday was ace! 👍👍
Well, I’m in awe of your times, but it sounds like a great hill-training course. I love the description - give me those “fake” negative splits! I want them! 🤣🤣 Would keep me going back, that, even at a probable crawl on the uphill bits. 😄 Well done. But ‘fraid you’re no longer a true snail..,.
We’ll see about the snail comment on Saturday GS! I suspect my herd will be out in all their glory, judging by the course description! 🐌🐌
Ashton Court is such a good workout. The carrot is the promise of the 2.5k downhill after you’ve slogged up - although I continued on further yesterday before turning. PR is simply up, turn, down! I love it! 👍😀
Ha! That's one hell of a hill that's produced those perfect "fake" negative splits. 5k long and getting steeper every k, is it? That's a cheeky sprint if I ever saw a chipmunk
Actually, I've never seen a chipmunk, but you know what I mean. Classy stuff grandma!
Lyme Park is a total no-no (playing hockey the best excuse of many) but we are still hoping to get to Eastville the week after.
Onwards and downwards!! Northwards and westwards!!
Actually the PR route is 2.5k up, turn, 2.5k down. Yesterday I did 2.5k up, and ran on for an extra 1 flat km before turning, making 7k. It’s a great run and the promise of the long descent makes the pain of the hill worth it. You just have to try to avoid the inane grin (which I fail to do!) once you’ve reached the top! 🙄🙄
It would be awesome if you guys could make it to Eastville. The hill there is friendly compared to AC (and Lyme Park!)
Thanks JaoJao, no doubt there’ll be another post from me at the weekend following our VRB meetup at Lyme Park! Mine won’t be the only one on the subject though, as there are a number of us going along! Should be fun. 😀😀
