Almost off the IC on my 1 year running anniversary

I've been on the IC since 22 Aug with a calf strain (then bashed same calf with bike peddle and then pulled it again running to the washing line when I was supposed to be resting! )

It's almost fixed i hope ;) Physio said to give it another week after walking is painless so I've got a few more days to go.

I'm planning on starting again easy as I trail run with lots of gravel and uphill I might force myself to do a road run or 2 to start... that or walk up the hills for the first few runs.

I'm wondering how hard it's going to be? Do we lose lots of fitness in a month? I've been walking more and more as my leg has been getting better and been going on bike rides when I can.

Up until the injury I was doing around 100k a month. Do I need to start again really slow and build up? Am I going to really struggle?

I'm so looking forward to being out again I don't want to re-injure myself :)

I had a nasty calf tear a few years back, Anren and was out for 3 months! I honestly don't think fitness will be much of an issue after just one month. I would say, however, take it easy going back, as calf strains can go again if not properly healed! 😫I was out for a lot longer than you and had to build up slowly, with the wonderful support and advice from a local physio - I have had no further problems with my calf at all since then. Fingers crossed you will be back out there soon.πŸ€žπŸ™‚

Thanks Sandraj39. 3 months - that must have been hard work! Great news it healed well :)

I would say to take it slow and build up, you probably haven't lost much aerobic fitness but your leg may need some coddling for a while

Thanks Backintime :)

I did my first run yesterday - a gentle 4k on the flat and it was soooo nice to be out again!

I wanted to keep going but sensible me kept it short and sweet. Will have another little run tomorrow as suffered no ill effects :D
