I have been away in Scotland with work this last week. I managed a 3km recovery run one evening, a 1km very slow run as recommended by Nike Run Club (except I couldn’t go as slow as specified), and a tourist Parkrun in Aberdeen along the esplanade + another 3km to the cafe to meet relatives for breakfast.
The esplanade run was windy, but not cold once you were on the move. It was a there and back, then back again to the cafe.
Trying to knock a bit of time off my quickest 5km time, I always find Parkrun hard going. That’s why I thought I’d try Nike Run Club to see if it helps me get a sub 30mins 5km. 29’59” will do me.

Ahh yes sorry I jumped the gun a bit didn’t I? I thought you’d run 29.59 yesterday. 🙄 Even so, you’re getting there and I can’t wait to hear when you do achieve it. I most likely never will (unless I shave a miraculous 6.11 off my PB!) 😅
That one is on our list. We ran at Ellon the week before. Our 3 friends said they were coming to cheer us on (Mike runs there when not on the IC). Then that changed to coming along to walk it. But they were all running by the end.
Next week they will be going to volunteerand run/walk. Already looking at other parkuns nearby, including Aberdeen.
Won't need a book, I like cheering everyone in at the finish line. I think my post was badly written, I haven't got faster for a bit (in fact I've got slower). More practice required!
I have business in Edinburgh towards the end of this week and plan to do the parkrun on Cramond prom on Saturday. After that, I am thinking of spending a few days in Scotland, weather permitting, driving further north and then back down. One challenge is going to be finding suitable places to run. I am doing the Great South Run in a few weeks so need to keep building the mileage, preferably on tarmac and (the more difficult bit) fairly flat. GSR is 10 miles on pancake flat tarmac. I doubt if I will get as far north as Aberdeen but will bear the promenade in mind.
