Seem to have hit a wall - any advice?

Reached 10k a couple of months ago, and even got up to 12k! But for the last month, I am struggling to even get past 6k, and feel like I've hit a wall - seem to have lost stamina and no idea why, which in itself is making me lose the joy of running. Any tips would be so gratefully received ☹

Hi Josie, sorry to hear it feels like hard work lately, and you feel less satisfied, it does take the fun out of your running.

Are you feeling well, apart from the dip in your stamina?

Mixing up your running with shorter runs in between your distance runs is still important, most people stick to one long run per week.

Have you thought of trying the Jeff Galloway method of run/walk. A few folk have mentioned this recently and I'm playing around with it at the moment with different intervals, and enjoying it.

I hope you get your mojo back, let us know how you get on.😊xxx

I have had a lot on with other things, so maybe my head isnt in the game, but things are settling down so maybe I can build myself back up. I will have a look at the Galloway method, have read a little but definitely worth a go. Thank you for the motivation!!! ☺️😊 xx

That’s a shame Josie. Maybe you’re needing a new goal to work towards, either speed or distance? 10 miles is achievable for a 10k runner for example.

Or maybe you could do with a change of scenery? Do you do Parkrun? Maybe some tourism? Or could you switch up your regular running routes and incorporate hills, run intervals etc?

Hopefully the cool autumn weather will give you a bit of a boost too. Good luck! 👍😀🏃‍♀️

My next goal is the 10 miles, and I think that's where my frustration is creeping in. I think I have focused on speed to get my 5k in at a decent speed, and maybe my pace is too fast for the longer distance. I have had other things on but they're settling down so heres hoping 🤞🤞. First autumn running for me but can't wait after running in the summer heat. Thanks so much for your advice ☺️😊

Yes, a slower pace for longer runs is definitely the way to go. Good luck, and I’m glad your life has settled down giving you a chance to get back to enjoying your running. 👍😀

Join a club, parkrun, sign up to races. I needed some company so club was the best thing I did.
