Tight chest

Hi all - I’ve been running for a while now but the last couple of weeks I’ve been getting a tight chest and wheezing when running and afterwards. This hasn’t happened before and I don’t have asthma or hay fever. Also I haven’t had a cold or anything recently.

Any thoughts what the problem could be?

Thanks

I’m no medical expert. Maybe you’re coming down with a bug?

Good afternoon UNM, just a little note to tell you that I ran my 4th parkrun this morning, no PB time of 33.31, however, I enjoyed the run, so it's onto that 9K next Wednesday. Enjoy your marshalling at Junior Parkrun tomorrow morning if you are at one.

I’m not at juniors and was only very briefly at parkrun this morning (long story) was home by ten last nine. Next weekend I should be back out there.

Great job today, and not PBing will help with the next run.

If it persists check it out with your doctor.

Please get checked. If you can't get a docs appointment you could try asking at the pharmacy. They are good at knowing if you need to see the doc or not.

Hi Jen - even though you haven't had asthma before it's worth getting checked out. I was diagnosed with it 4 years ago at the age of 45! (I'm making no assumptions about your age - just making the point that asthma doesn't always start in childhood 😂)

Looking back I can think of a few occasions when I'd put being a bit breathless down to exercise or on one occasion an allergy to a relative's cat - but other than that had no indication until I ended up with an emergency admission to hospital because I couldn't breathe (and even at that point was putting it down to a panic attack)!

Apparently you can develop it and sometimes it's a specific reaction to something. Mine's controlled easily now with an inhaler when it crops up.

Best to get it sorted without the emergency admission though 😊.

Good luck with it.

I will definitely make an appointment with the doctor and get it checked out. Thanks for the advice everyone 👍🏼

If I'm correct some people can get exercise induced asthma. Better getting a check-up at the doctors😊

I have just been diagnosed with exercise induced asthma. I had all the asthma tests and showed normal results, but the nurse went on my symptoms. I have been using an inhaler for two weeks now and starting to notice improvement.

Keep a diary of symptoms and times, etc.

Good luck 👍

I would see a doc if it were me. If no problem then your mind is at rest.
