I've done a few 10ks on the treadmill but today I did my first one outside.
Very pleased I did it in London, my home town.π
I also managed to knock 5 minutes off my best treadmill time of 91mins 42 secs, so I was very pleased.

Great run Backintime! <3 The 10k is my favourite distance.
Amazing stuff and you are right to be pleased. Well done.
Hope you have subsequently rewarded yourself β maybe by replenishing those 679 calories you used up!
Congratulations on completing your first 10K run outside, well done π π
Thanks Al, I see you have a 10k planned too !
Yes indeed backintime, there are so many programs for graduates of C25K to progress to 10K, so I just thought I'd run 1 Kilometre more a week until I got to 10K using my new metromone app at a fairly low setting of 162 steps a minute, so far using Mapmyrun and the metromone app I've ran 6km in around 44 minutes, 7K in around 52 minutes, this Wednesday I hope to run 8K in around a hour, that would be the longest run I have ever ran, the following Wednesday it would be 9K in around 68 minutes and the following Saturday morning when the parkrun I usually attend is cancelled because of a political rally in the park, I intend to run a 10K in around 75 minutes, so all in all that's the plan, I will report my progress. π π
That looks like an interesting run - slightly more so than 91 mins on a treadmill I suspect π
WHOO-HOO! This is awesome, you're awesome. Well done, I'm so glad you did it in LONDON BABY! X
Yes...you never know, I may get even further on Tuesday, my last London run
Thanks clubber
So where's the next 10k destination? DUBLIN BABY ππ!?
PARIS BABY !!
I may sign up for a 10k now I have done one outside
π€ PARIS BABY! Do it! x
Fantastic Backintime! Well done you!π
So much to look at stealing your attention...you got a brilliant pb tooβπ
Enjoy your run on Tuesday...with 10k on your legs today, you may want a gentler one!ππxxx
Brilliant, just brilliant πππ
Really pleased for you my lovely xxx
Fantastic. Well done , looks like you ran the eastenders intro.
Enjoy your celebration. πΎπΎ
What a great achievement on your 10k and you did it outside, you must be so pleased. Well done ππ
Woooo hoooo! Well done you... and what a gorgeous path to do it on... so much to see... I think I might have route envy!! Also - looking at this - look how bloominβ far 10K is when you measure it alongside the Thames... amazing. Iβm almost tempted to try another one... π. Ps, love what you wrote about needing a pee... I donβt think thereβs enough time spent covering the small print of running!! π x x
Yes, I didn't realise how far I'd gone til I realised I was in Deptford, with no money and no travelcard, nothing to do but walk back.
I always feel like a fraud when other runners go past me and I'm obviously dressed for running but am strolling along, lol. I want to say "don't judge, I just did 10k and need to pee" lol.
You are funny!! I know what you mean about the fraud feeling too... I just pant a lot and donβt wipe any sweat off, whilst trying to exude an βIβve just finished running REALLY FAR yβknow,β kind of vibe!! X X anyway, enjoy your last run of your holiday. Just maybe pack a travel card next time - who knows where you might end up?! X
Well done! And what a wonderful place to run
Lucky (Outside now) Runner
Thanks IJ
It is nice, but come Wednzsday I will be heading back to stupid hills and no pavements to use : )
Fantastic, well done, great run πππ
Great stuff...well done going outside....im fancying Paris 10k too
Enjoy the rest of your hols
Well done! Running outside is much more fun! 10k in Paris would be wonderful!!
Fab, well done you...outside and a PB too, yay! π Were you stopping off for a sweaty lunch on the way back or did you still have a long walk home! π€
long walk home, I intended to run / walk it home but needed to pee so only ran 500m lol
Yes, defo can't run when you're desperate...much easier to clench when you're walking π. Hope you treated yourself to a little drink when you got home, you deserved it after a long walk on top of your 10K π₯
Well done back in time! That route looks good Iβll have to try when I visit my son ! So you did it 5 mins quicker than on treadmill - I was going ti ask how tine differs between treadmill and running outside? U started c25k outside but since buying a treadmill on eBay Iβve beeb keen to use the treadmill ! Think I need to mix it up?!
To be honest, when I got here nearly 2 weeks ago I found it hard. I had done a bit outside in France but not much.
I persevered, I realised I had been unconsciously clenching my muscles on the treadmill, probably for balance against the movement. So I had to consciously relax. I set my run app to shout at me every 2 minutes from my bum with average pace to make sure I wasn't setting off too fast.
It took me about 10 days to get back up to the same distance, but I feel stronger now. I had put any program "aside" for this holiday and decided just to dedicate it to transferring outside.
I have an allergy to latex/rubber so I don't have earphones, so it was all without music or podcasts so I suspect it may have been easier with some distraction.
The route is fairly flat (chosen purposely) and there are no cars to worry about so I could concentrate solely on pushing the distance outside.
My pace varied instead of being completely regular on the treadmill and I had to concentrate on not going too fast, especially in the beginning.
Hope that helps
Well done! How did you feel? Iβm like you - a treadmill runner so any run I do outdoors feels like a whole new achievement! I recently ran 7 miles outside ( thought I was going to collapse at the end ha ha) but felt prouder I had done it outside ha ha .
Yes, it's definitely different, but outside is easier mentally for me, inside is a bit easier physically but I sweat more inside than out. I do have my treadmill incline at 1.5 like a good girl lol.
It was hard the first couple of times, but my breathing was fine, just slightly different use of leg muscles. Once I got my muscles used to it, it was ok. I took these 2 weeks holiday and just ran outside and walked alot. I'm at about 150k in total for August. I walked and walked and ran and walked, but it paid off.
