Hello
Hoping to consolidate and improve: get stronger, extend endurance. That kind of thing!
I’m struggling with a very weak right leg, but I got to 5k, so... let’s do this!
Well... consolidation now is what is needed...
Lots of running... carry on, what C25K has begun.... lots of strength and stamina work..it plays a massive part when we move forward! Get into the habit of a regular routine, strength and flex, yoga, or cross training etc...
Then short runs, 30 minute runs and the great, lovely longer runs that build everything up...maybe new routes too. Exercises for that weak right leg too... and maybe there a Sports Physio could be helpful
Lots then to look at... take a peek at the C25K+ podcasts.. great fun, challenging and teaching us so much about the disciplines in our running
Age? Just a number... at least, at 69, that is why I say
I think it is critical that the older we get the more active we should be. So many people do the opposite which, I believe, can lead to health issues ultimately. Our bodies are made to move about so you are doing exactly the right thing. My mum joined a gym at age 86 so it’s never too late!
I highly recommend strength training as our muscles weaken considerably as we age. If you are a woman then this is doubly important. Your weak leg (and I don’t know what’s wrong with it) could also benefit greatly from strength exercises. A strong body leads to better running so it’s all good 🙂
Enjoy the journey 🤗
There you go tulipcat, expert advice already given! I'm 61 and started running after my 60th birthday because I do not want to seize up. Having recognisable calf muscles is such a bonus! Can I add Pilates to the list of good stuff to do, it's brilliant for a strong core. And be prepared to be kind to yourself as you go for longer distances.
