Donβt get me wrong VRBs, I love running and I love warmth. But enough already! π₯΅πββοΈ I know Iβll be eating my words when Iβm forced to go to the gym in the winter and grind out 4 miserable kms on the treadmill (tried 5k on it once. Hideous) πββοΈ
I postponed my 18k attempt this morning because I knew thereβd be a higher than average chance of me failing - and that would have cheesed me off no end. Instead I went for a βnice little 5kβ along the towpath. Ha. Nice? It was scorching, with only some small stretches of shade. Even my dog was seeking out the river for a drink. π
So Iβm going to admit it guys, I didnβt enjoy my run this morning. Iβve been reading about some of you having torrential rain. Where are you? Iβm coming! π¦π¦π¦
As punishment for my joke positive splits - check them out, they couldnβt be much more positive could they?!! π π , I made myself do an extra 1k to prove that Iβm not a total wet blanket. It was better, at 7:22, which is more like it. Felt slightly better after that. π
Anyway, hereβs hoping itβs cool enough for 18k on Wednesday, or later in the week. Iβd like to do it this week if possible, no real reason. Do a rain dance for me please guys! β€οΈπ¦β€οΈ

Itβll cool down soon Cheeky. Picture me, right now woodburner roaring, pouring with rain outside, wheat bag on back, (old niggle) and electric blanket on. Hereβs some from Enzed for you π¦βοΈπ¦π¦
Ooo thanks, I can almost feel it Lexi, and it sounds wonderful! Seriously, I donβt mind winter running at all, except the short days. Stay warm (and Iβll try to stay cool!) β€οΈ
The good old English summer eh? Hey, you did 5k, so donβt beat yourself up too much. Your 18k will come when the time is right π We set off in drizzle at 4.30am. Now approaching Paris and itβs 27.5c and sunny. Going to have to start getting up early again if Iβm going to stand a chance in the Dordogne!!
Thanks Sandie, Iβm looking at the forecast and Wednesday promises to be grey with a little drizzle if I go early enough. So thatβs my plan at the moment. π
Hope you get some coolish runs in! πββοΈπ€π
Oh yes it certainly is TC! I canβt wait for even a drizzle, let alone a deluge, to run in. Fingers crossed for Wednesday in my case. Hopefully youβll get treated to some cooler weather soon too! π€π
I know cheeky, we are putting off our short run till later. Itβs not you - thereβs a difference between doing c25k in it last year to knocking out your long distances. Have a good water drink up, and forget the meh run.
Thanks Dexy, I suppose last year we werenβt comparing our distance/times with our previous runs. We just had to run for a few pre determined minutes and be proud - which we were, and it was great. π
This year weβve changed our goalposts!
Hope you two get a cooler run later. Iβm hoping the grey forecast for Wednesday materialises! π€π€π€
Much appreciated UTS! I absolutely canβt wait to run in the rain. π¦π¦ It seems ungrateful to be complaining about lovely weather, but when you have to run ......... ππ
Smart move to rearrange your runs this week and postpone your 18k for hopefully cooler days. We're also in a heat wave, making running a challenge. But slow and slower yet and getting out earlier will get it done. Be kind to yourself. This heat makes running hard and it isn't time to push yourself. Walk if you need to, take water, seek shade if you are so fortunate to have any in your run route.
Aww thanks Sask. β€οΈ Compared to your heatwave, ours is non-existent this week (it was baking last week though - mid 30βs), but I feel the heat anyway, and anything over 20 degrees is uncomfortable for me. I know, Iβm a pansy! π π This morning it was slightly warmer than that and now itβs 25 degrees (luckily not running now!), but there was little shade and an unhelpful warm breeze.
It explains why I dislike the treadmill so much in the winter. Just so π₯΅π₯΅π₯΅π₯΅π₯΅
I'm the same. I overheat on the treadmill. I really enjoyed the breeeze on last week's long run, but I remember a particularly hot run last year where when I hit the top of the hill, it was like someone had turned the furnace on full blast! So not refreshing! We're supposed to be around 30 all week. Too hot. I much prefer low to mid twenties and teens for running.
20c up here CC. We had a drizzly morning but I missed it because I had a job to do. I thought it felt quite cool...until I stepped outside. I think it is just survival model when the weather is like this. We should have temperature adjusted times. I abandoned any thoughts of a long run today. Getting a bit worried as it is now 17 days since my 13k! Well done on getting out there. Our friends hate the heat π..............βοΈπβοΈπβοΈπβοΈπ.
What a good idea BC, temperature adjusted times! ππππ
Do you think youβll manage to get a long run in this week? Iβm trying to keep momentum by upping mine every 2-3 weeks, and I *think* Wednesday should be ok. π€π¦
Too right, our little π π π hate this hot weather malarkey. So hot in their shells (itβs how I feel too!) π₯΅π₯΅
Thought I would try Thursday. It looks like 18c max and a bit drizzly up here. Ideal: nothing compared to the torrent of Saturday which was fun to be out in! I will probably go for an early start too as we are due to go out for lunch with friends. I thought I would go for a slow 5k today but my legs had other ideas. They were still programmed to Tasha time from Saturday and ran 33 minutes dead! Totally out of control; I am ashamed of myself. Partly the physios' fault. She showed me a new lunge which encourages you to pick up your leg more when you push off and carry it through higher, engaging hips and glutes more and putting less strain on the calves. Big thing is my "injured" knee and calf stiffened up a bit after Saturday's run, but it feels great today. So maybe ready for a slow ( if my legs do as they are told) longer effort. I will probably set the watch for 10k and see how I feel if I get there. You know how it is; I am in a rush to get back on the 10 mile trail, but that is a sure way to repeat the injury! I am backing you for an 18k this week πππππππ₯π₯π₯π
Ooo I like the sound of your lunges - all those things I need to learn to do too! Youβre turning into a speed demon BC! Youβre shedding ππ left, right and centre!
Ok, youβre on. Youβve inspired me with your backing to get out and do 18k on Wednesday. πͺ Itβs the coolest day of the week, and next week looks pretty warm too, so itβll be my best chance. Iβll back you for Thursday. Deal? ππ
Deal CC, we are good to go. Wimping out isnβt in our vocabulary! (As opposed to the occasional strategic adjustment of target to take account of uncontrollable external factors). Sir Humphrey Appleby would be proud! π
It shouldn't be on my horizon Jell, it was a moment of madness that I could seriously regret. π Yeah, must admit I'm liking the badge... Thanks for cheekychipgump as well, that really did make me laugh. π€£
