Getting back after injury.

After my Hamstring injury on June 27th, I tried to restart my running on July 9th, and just tore the damn thing again. So I have been working on getting it back in shape with an Exercise Ball, and Foam Roller, and loads of 'trapped-indoors' syndrome!

On Wednesday, 2 weeks after the last failed attempt, I decided to reload Couch to 5K and have Laura take me through some very slow 60 second jogs.

It went very well, and I walk/jogged 2.5Km. However at the end of each 60 second jog, I could definitely feel the hamstring tightening.

Today I did the same again. But this time I only got that tightening feeling right at the end of the first jog. So I did increased my pace a bit on the subsequent reps. No bad effects, so I think I am probably on the mend.

I plan to keep with Laura next week, and maybe do one of the longer interval runs from C25K, until I'm sure that the healing is complete. No Parkrunning, but I will go and cheer.

Hope you are all having fun.

p.s. Just heard I am going to be 'funnel manager' at Keswick Parktun tomorrow. No idea what that's going to entail.

I think "the funnel manager." at parkrun is the person who directs the runners to the correct point where at the end of the run they get their barcode scanned.

Sorry about your continued injury but at least you can have Laura for company for 60 second jogs.

I was hoping to run my second parkrun tomorrow, however, the weather forecast is for thundery ☔ rain.

It would be very uncomfortable for me to get soaked while running and after the run have to sit in a bus for 45 minutes with a soaking wet T shirt and shorts on my way home. Still hoping for the run but at this moment it's a bit doubtful.

Enjoy your duty as funnel manager at Keswick tomorrow.

Glad to hear you are healing at last, even if not as quickly as you’d like. At least you’re spared the decision about whether to run in the heat (I haven’t run since last Friday - had a friend to stay and too hot!) Going to risk parkrun tomorrow as it’s looking more like running weather. Enjoy being funnel manager - that’s quite a responsibility you’ll have. Take it steady 😀

Maybe it is one of those funnels with tubes attached used for beer drinking in stag nights! Hope the recovery goes smoothly now TOF, so frustrating!🍺🍺

We can but hope! Some how I think AlMorr has the right idea though. It's also our wedding anniversary (45), so the wine (decanted through a funnel, of course,) will come later.

44 years for us in October. 74/75 was a good year😊

Have fun being funnel manager! I think you might also check that the time keepers are synced and nobody overtakes in the funnel.

You'll be kept busy!

A month without running seems like a very long time! Glad it's coming to an end👍

Hello theoldfellow, if you are going to be on the IC, this is the time to do it with the hot weather. It sounds like the c25k intervals are working well for you though so good luck with that.

UpTheStanley has been funnel manager several times so he will be on to explain your very important duties.

Congratulations on your anniversary - We are going to a 45th party on Sunday - they say it’s sapphire . Who knew? Have a lovely time.

Hi TOF

Yes, it's my favourite job. I'm sending you a message using chat, 'cos it won't help if I tell you how it works here and everyone else goes "oh no, at our parkrun ……..". :-(

You'll enjoy it, I'm sure.

It was good fun. Very easy job. It helps if the Token guy doesn't drop his handful. Thanks for your helpful hints.

I read that as 'Funeral manager'..... at the end of a parkrun ! I've not been brave enough to do a parkrun yet- and that wasn't very encouraging ! Maybe I will have a go soon now that I have read 'funnel' correctly !!

Funnel Manager, I have discovered, is one of the easier jobs, mostly it is just congratulating the runners, and making sure they don't overtake after the finish.

If you are scared of running Parkrun, why not volunteer? I almost guarantee that you will see runners who look and run far worse than you.
